Roaming like home?

Aidansamso
I've been around

So I’ve been on vacation for well over 2 weeks now and I turns out that I’ve been charged for roam like home EVERYDAY since I’ve been gone! On my plan it says international texts are unlimited and I have not used data once! How am I supposed to afford 400$ what a rip off, your guys support number takes hours to pick up, I’m supposed to be on vacation enjoying myself now I gotta worry about this stupid scam. If this doesn’t get fixed I know I’ll be taking my business elsewhere

Are you sure you can connect to the wifi at the hotel with your phone on airplane mode?

Safest to have your phone on airplane mode all the time.

Yes - been doing it for years.  You can do it anywhere. Test it at home - turn on Airplane mode on your device, turn on WiFi, connect to WiFi.

Thank you!  I just tried it and at first it did not work.  I went into setting and put on wifi although it is supposed to go on automatically I guess it did not.

Re: Roaming like home?

I buy an eSIM using the Airelo app and turn off my Rogers service when traveling.

Same thing happened to me. I had an eSIM card through another provider and had no intention of using roam like home. In cellular settings I manually selected the travel eSIM card and deselected the Roger’s SIM card. Somehow though, my son and I had roam like home charges totalling almost $100 when we returned home. I had asked before leaving about opting out of Roam like Home and was told it wasn’t necessary, I just shouldn’t use the Roger’s line. We didn’t use the Roger’s lines. How can such large charges just be added automatically, without my approval or request? It took over an hour and chatting and talking to 5 people at Roger’s before somebody was able to refund the charges. At least the last representative I talked to was also able to deactivate Roam Like Home so that we won’t be scammed on our next trip to the States later this month. It’s also unbelievable that Roam Like home is so expensive, when an eSIM (which provides 1 G of data a day, FaceTime calls, and unlimited text messages) was about $1.50 a day. It’s a no wonder Roger’s has a history of automatically adding this charge - nobody would willingly over pay for the service. I should add that we have successfully used eSIM cards in the past when we travel with Roger’s and other providers and have never been charged roaming fees or roaming like home in the past. The eSIM cards were always a great alternative in the past. Not sure what went wrong this time.

Unless the destination you are at is included to call and text from in your plan. International texting means from Canada.
