Ultimately, that depends on your plan. Some plans include US roaming. I would recommend having a plan that includes US roaming in the monthly cost versus using Roam Like Home rates, which can quickly add up to a lot.

@BrianE : As mentioned above, Roaming can vary a lot, but typically Roam Like Home (RLH) daily charges are something like $12/day for the US and $15/day for outside North America.  You need to check your plan and also be aware that RLH can be triggered very easily.
