Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

Pouyan
I'm here a lot

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to inquire about whether or not Rogers reports my home internet monthly payments to credit bureaus such as TransUnion or Equifax. As I understand it, reporting my payments can positively impact my credit score.

After doing some research, I found that Rogers does report to TransUnion. However, upon checking my TransUnion credit report, I did not see any record of Rogers reporting to Transunion.

Could you please confirm if you do report my payments to TransUnion? And if so, could you explain why it may not be appearing on my credit report?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
P

Good day @Pouyan,

Thanks for joining the Rogers Community and thank you for your post!

On a monthly basis, Rogers reports your payment performance under the tradeline section of the credit file (i.e. Credit History or Account History).

After each billing cycle, the following is reported:

  • Activation, cancellation, billing and last delinquency dates
  • Agency assignment
  • Cancellation reason (voluntary or involuntary, fraud, activated in error, buyer’s remorse, bankruptcy and credit counselling)
  • Current and delinquent balance
  • Last payment (amount and date of payment)
  • Write-off amount
  • Settlement  and debt sale
  • Delinquency rating
  • Identification (name, address, SIN, date of birth, home phone number)

Feel free to contact our Credit Operations for any questions and inquiries that you may have on your Credit Bureau tradeline.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply,

As you mentioned and based on what I read on the website, Rogers is supposed to report this, but it seems it's not the case for me. However, I contacted Customer Support, and they made a ticket for me. Again thanks so much for the informative message. I recommend everyone to check theirs too so that they may have faced the same problem as me.

Take care,

PO

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

Hello,

Today, I received surprising news that contradicts what I've been led to believe from numerous sources, including your responses and community discussions. I was informed that Rogers Home Internet does not, in fact, report to Equifax or TransUnion. This revelation is at odds with what I previously understood, and I am struggling to comprehend why they wouldn't report it when various credible sources suggest they should. Once again, I find myself in a state of confusion and seeking clarity.

I can confirm that they USED to report to Equifax, as they are on a Credit Report I view through Borrowell. However, I did notice that my new account is not included in this. I'm not sure if they stopped reporting, or it isn't being properly done.

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

So you have/had a home Internet account, and they used to report it to Equifax, and now they don't?

Yes, that's right. I had an account which I had closed in 2018 after switching providers. I switched back recently, but my new account had not been on my credit report since.

My account that was closed in 2018 does in fact show up on my Borrowell Credit Report, but my new one does not.

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

I have switched from Fido home internet to Rogers home internet for two months now (since Fido home internet has been discontinued.)

Back when I was with Fido home internet, my payment info was reported every month to Equifax and TransUnion.

Now on both my Equifax and TransUnion credit reports, I can see my Fido account is closed, but no new Rogers account at all.

Is Rogers cutting cost and not reporting to Equifax and TransUnion?

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

Good evening @ivanyu and welcome to the Rogers Community Forums!

I hope you're enjoying the Rogers services so far, thanks for bringing this to our attention. As mentioned by RogersMaude here, Rogers reports a customer's payment performance under the tradeline section of the credit file (i.e. Credit History or Account History) on a monthly basis.

If you have noticed that Rogers  does not appear on your credit bureau I would recommend two things:

1) Check and verify that your personal info i.e. name, address, and DOB is correct on the account. You can do so via MyRogers >> Profile & Settings.

2) If the above info is listed correctly, please get in touch with our Credit Operations team so they can place an investigation with the credit bureau.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you further questions or concerns.

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

I have contacted Credit Operations team team via online chat, they ask me to just wait for another month.

I asked Rogers agent to check whether Rogers has reported or not to credit bureau, and Rogers online chat told me they cannot check this, and ask me to contact credit bureau directly.

This makes no sense at all.  If Rogers know it has reported, I can definitely check directly with credit bureau.  But if Rogers doesn't know, what am I going to tell credit bureau?

If other people are experiencing the same, it may be a generic problem on Rogers home internet not being reported to credit bureaus.  I think Rogers should take another detail look at this.

I've been around

@RogersZia I 'm experiencing the exact same issue. Upon calling the Roger's credit operations team, they claim that they only report to the credit bureau if a payment is defaulted. This makes no sense to me, as Fido seems to regularly report my payments every month. It's only Roger's Ignite Home internet that doesn't (although I see the hard-check on my credit report made when I initiated my Roger's connection), and the agent doesn't seem to understand this/give me a proper reply.

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

Good day @varif,

Welcome to the Rogers Community and thank you for your post.

While we report the items listed in this post to the credit bureau on a regular basis, the monthly payments you make, for an account for which you subscribed, will not all have a direct impact on your credit score, especially in the case of residential-only services.

You will see a derogatory report to the credit bureau if your account is delinquent, if you've incurred late payments or if it is assigned to a collection agency.

Please verify that your personal information such as name, address, and DOB is correct on your Rogers account. You can check by logging in to your MyRogers online profile, under the Profile & Settings tab.

If the info is listed correctly, feel free get in touch with our Credit Operations team for further explanation.

Thanks!

Re: Home internet - Monthly Payment Reporting to Credit Bureaus

@RogersZia I have called credit ops and talked to the supervisor, she confirmed that internet only clients of Rogers do NOT get their payment info reported to credit bureaus at all.  Only wireless (cell phone) users get their payment info reported.

I have no such issue back at Fido.  I was only a Fido internet customer and my monthly payment were all reported to both credit bureaus.  It does help improve my credit score.  Every prompt monthly payment reported to credit bureaus make the score better.

It is a shame that Rogers does not do the same as Fido, after migrating Fido internet only customers.

@RogersMaude Rogers not reporting internet only customers to credit bureaus causes another even worse effect on credit score, and that is, every time an account gets closed, credit score is decreased.  So in this case, Fido account being closed has a negative impact on credit score, and new Rogers account do not get reported anymore, so in the end, you do not get to even out the negative impact of a closed account, especially bad if you Fido account has been used for a long time (heavier weight to the credit score).
