Discount for Senior Citizen for Wireless Phone

islandgirl2
I've been here awhile

Hello I contacted Rogers to find out if my mom's discount for her wireless phone can be extended as it was expiring May 2, 2024.  Long conversation that ended with the Rogers customer service rep saying that she will submit the request to the backup office team to see if the discount will continue.  Never heard back from anyone.  Called back Aug 21, 24 and was told that the request was closed.  I told the customer service rep that I do not know the outcome of the request.  She said it was denied.  My mom is 93 and do not know how to use a cell phone and hardly uses her wireless phone but I would like to keep the wireless phone for her in case of any emergencies.  She is on a very tight budget especially since all the food prices have skyrocketed. Is there anyway that Rogers can give her a discount on her wireless phones.  She is already paying for her Internet and Ignite TV bundle.  Would appreciate your help.  Thank you

If she is truly low income, Rogers has the Connected for Success programme which covers wireless (cell phone), Internet and TV.  (When you mention wireless, I assume you're talking about a dumb (not smart) cell phone, and not a cordless home phone)

I have my cell phone on a Pre-paid plan, which costs me $10/mo (I purchased my phone).  I believe the latest plans start at $15/month if you bring your own phone.  Also, any cell phone, even without a SIM can call 911 without a plan.

Hello i should have mentioned it was a Wireless Home Phone,  is the Connected for Success programme for Wireless home phone also?.  I was told it wasn't during my conversation with the Rogers rep.

@islandgirl2 : The real savings associated with Connected for Success should be with the Internet and TV bundles. I assume there is a coaxial cable coming to her home.   A cordless home phone (do not call it wireless because that will confuse people who'll think that you're talking about a cell phone) is usually only about $10/month (local calling) when associated with a TV bundle.  Canada wide calling will cost an additional $10/mo if desired.  For long distance, I just keep my calls short or have people call me, or FaceTime.

You should probably see if you can negotiate the entire suite of services she has with the Connected for Success people, for whom I've already provided the link in my previous post.

If she lives in the country and everything is wireless, then I cannot comment on that and you'll have to ask the Connected for Success people what can be done in that instance.  There is a phone number or e-mail at the bottom of the following page:

Hello thank you for the info.   I sent an email to cfsapplication@rci.rogers.com asking them if mother’s wireless home phone would be eligible for a discount under her Connected for Success TV/Internet bundle since Aug 23, 2024 but have not received a response from them as yet.  I sent another email today asking them for a response.  Hopefully they answer.  BTW on her Rogers bill they refer to the home phone as a "wireless home phone" not a cordless phone as it is not a landline phone.

I assume that she therefor lives in the country and gets her service via the cell phone service system, or where she lives doesn't have cable.  I'm not sure how Rogers handle that as far as discounts go for Connected for Success since I don't recall it being shown under that umbrella.  I hope they get back to you soon.
