Corvetteboy1
I've been here awhile

I received a channel list for the popular TV package from a Rogers Rep for Hamilton ON.

there are 40 channels listed with a check mark (included)

there are 82 channels shown as a flex included.

how many flex channels can I use/include at the same time?

@Corvetteboy1Are you a long-time Ignite TV subscriber or a new/prospective Xfinity TV subscriber?

If you are not on an old/grandfathered package, it's possible that the rep accidentally sent you an old listing, back from when Popular TV offered Flex Channels.  Rogers still keeps them around so that customers, still on their original packages, can get a listing of their channels, or get a comparative channel listing with their old package and a current in-market package. I just checked online and Popular TV still only contains fixed (no Flex) channels.

Is there any indicator of a date on your channel listing, something like "Ignite TV Popular - pre Jul 21"?

To answer your question, the way that the older packages worked is that you had a certain number of fixed "basic" channels, that were common to all packages, plus a pool of Flex Channels that you can select from to complete your package.  The "40 channels listed with a check mark (included)" are those that Rogers pre-selects for you, but you can swap any of those out for another channel of your choosing from the pool of available Flex channels.  The package may offer 82 Flex Channels in your pool but only 40 of them can be active at one time.

Rogers originally allowed you perform a flex channel swap once every 30 days.  They later loosened those restrictions.

As of November, 2023, Rogers stopped offering Flex Channels in their TV packages, opting to instead offer packages with a larger number of fixed channels.  Those with older Flex Channel packages could still keep them.

Thanks for your replies and explanations.

i am a longtime ignite TV subscriber and the channel list the rep sent me is dated 12/17/21 so I doubt it is current.

I am finding it very difficult to get what channels are included in the popular TV package.

1. The rep that I talked to said that the popular package included 111 channels.

2. On my account page it shows I would get a total of 106 channels if I change to the popular package.

3. When I go onto Rogers Black Friday Site it shows up to 116 channels for the popular tv package.

I think part of the issue is that stations show 2 channel numbers & HD so for example getting CHCH Hamilton actually counts as 2 or 3 channels if in HD out the total number of allowed channels.

interestingly Rogers website now doesn’t show any mention of “flex included” stations that showed on the channel list the rep sent me.

Another I think sneaky part by Rogers is HD channels are included with Ultimate & the no longer available Flex 20 packages. So maybe with Popular package I will pay $10/mo for HD.

Im going to go to a Rogers store to see if they can answer my questions.

sorry for the loooong rant, I will update after my store visit.

Re: Popular TV Flex Channels

If you subscribed to Ignite TV Popular prior to 2023, then that listing, dated 12/17/21 that you received, should be representative of the channels available to you.

What has caused confusion for many, including Rogers sales and support agents, is that Rogers discontinued Popular for a number of years, and then released a new "Popular TV" package in November, 2023.

Even more confusing is that some channels in the original Popular package have probably ceased broadcasting.  Your listing may not reflect that.  That said, "View my channel lineup" in MyRogers will tell you the channels that you are currently subscribed to and Exchange Flex Channels will tell you which Flex Channels you are subscribed to (that you can swap out) and the other channels that you can swap in.  If Exchange Flex Channels displays an error, you may be in a situation where one of your subscribed Flex Channels ceased broadcasting... and Exchange Flex Channels does not know what to do when one of your subscribed channels no longer exists, so it just gives up throws an error message.  If this happened to you, you will need to contact Support to get your account repaired.

Again thanks for the quick answer.

To clarify my current contract with Rogers includes TV plan is “Rogers Xfinity TV Flex 20 including sports” and expires Dec 5/24.

Rogers is offering me a new contract that includes the “Popular TV” package..

All I’m trying to do is find out exactly what channels are included in the Popular TV package and Im finding this difficult because on various Rogers sites showing different total channel amounts for Popular TV.

Your first answer that I would be able to swap out included channels with optional flex channels makes the most sense.
As I said earlier I plan to visit a Rogers store tomorrow and hopefully sort this out.
I will post after my store visit.

Re: Popular TV Flex Channels

@Corvetteboy1 : You will have a few options:

1. Keep your Flex+ Option, but realize that Rogers is unlikely to provide any promotions with that package - they typically don't like people sticking with grandfathered packages.

2. Switch to a new package, where you may get a better deal, but you need to check to make sure that package has the channels you want.

3. The website is usually the best place to look for the channels in that package.  Make note of any discrepancies and see if you can get clarification before you commit, preferably from a couple of sources.

4. Please realize that the pdfs that are sent by Rogers often contain many errors.  The website is usually better, however, you need to look at the individual channels you want, to confirm if they are included, not the overall channel count.

First of all, IGNORE the Ignite TV Popular channel listing that you received.  It is TOTALLY different from today's Popular TV package.  The current's Total TV package does not offer Flex Channels.

The way your "Flex 20 including Sports" package is structured is that you have 30 or so base channels and 20 Flex Channels.  The current in-market Popular TV package should include all of those base channels, and perhaps a few more.  You need to look at your subscribed flex channels and verify whether or not your channel selections are present in the Popular TV package.

You can also send a private message to @CommunityHelps  and request a "Comparative Channel Listing" that shows the "Flex 20 Including Sports" and "Popular TV" channel offerings side by side.

All I’m trying to do is find out exactly what channels are included in the Popular TV package and Im finding this difficult because on various Rogers sites showing different total channel amounts for Popular TV.

Yes, it is frustrating because the channel counts can be different depending on the source that you are looking at.  For example, if you subscribe to TSN1, it actually subscribes you to TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, and TSN5.  (TSN2 is a separate channel selection). You will also get the corresponding 4K channels, so depending on what you are looking at, TSN1 will get counted as 1, 4 or perhaps more channels in the total channel count.  There are other reasons why you can see different channel counts for the same package but the differences typically do reconcile.

A comparative channel listing will allow you to make a like-for-like comparison between two packages.

Your first answer that I would be able to swap out included channels with optional flex channels makes the most sense.

Yeah, except Rogers no longer includes Flex Channels in their TV packages.

Best of luck finding a solution that works for you!

I've been here awhile

I was finally able to go to a Rogers store (crazy time with Black Friday deals).

They gave me a print out with all the available channels for the Hamilton popular TV package. I asked how many of the 242 available channels could I could access at one time and they weren’t sure?
And although they said that there wasn’t any more flex channels the fine print at the bottom of the sheet references flex channels and that they can be swapped by any channels labeled flex.

I think -G-‘s earlier explanation about swapping out channels makes the most sense on what is available at one time.

I find it very frustrating that I couldn’t find out the answer from anyone at Rogers (by phone or in person) and the best place to get correct answers is on this forum.

Just to make sure that there are no surprises, go to https://www.rogers.com/bundles/channels , enter your address, then click on the Channels tab to see the channels that are included in Essentials TV, Popular TV, and Ultimate TV.

The current channel packages DO NOT contain any Flex Channels, and when you subscribe to a fixed channel package, the "Exchange flex channels" button in MyRogers is not present.  The only way to add missing favourite channels is to subscribe to them individually or to add them as part of a Theme Pack.

Also, due to Corus and Bell Media losing licensing rights, effective January 1, 2025, some channels will no longer exist, new channels will launch, some channels will change their name, and a huge number of shows will suddenly start airing on different channels.
