Is the Ignite TV Remote IR or RF?

Lannoc241
I've been here awhile

Perhaps a silly question, but I’m finally going to move to Ignite tv and I’m wondering if the remote is infrared?  I was hoping to hide the set top box but I don’t know if it needs to be in line is sight to work?

Thanks,

It is not a silly question if you need to ask. The Ignite box supports both IR and RF. The TV Remote uses RF so you should be able to place it anywhere.

I plan to stick around

Just got Ignite TV 2 days ago.  Works great.

However, for you question, the remote is IR.

I use a Logitech Harmony 1 to control everything.

But you must aim the remote directly towards it using either remote controller.

I am trying to solve that issue.

Otherwise very pleased.

Once properly paired to the IgniteTV box, the IgniteTV remote uses RF and you can "hide" the box if desired. As for controlling other devices, the IgniteTV remote uses IR since most devices like TVs, AVRs, Sound Bars, etc are IR.

The Harmony remote is IR.  Hope you get the "directionality" sorted.  The IgniteTV box has an IR receiver/eye indicated by some small triangles at the top right corner?  Make sure that is "visible" by the Harmony.  It can be directional based on feedback in other threads.

Hi  57,
Yup, you were right.  I can now use the Rogers controller with RF ( literally bury it behind a cushion ) and it works.

My Harmony still needs to be closely pointed at the Xi6 using IR.

I can live with that.

Cheers
