Disable Screen Saver & Call Display

aboyaci
I plan to stick around

Hi Everyone,

With the current Rogers Ignite TV boxes, is there a way to disable the screensaver, so that we can have the TV running continuous without having it turn on the screen saver. We would like the TV to run just like the old digital tv, where it keeps running without interruption. We really like to have a fix for this.

Also, could you please make sure the home phone call display works on the new Ignite TV boxes? We would like it if a software update fix is pushed out, so that the call display shows. These are important features for TV users.

Thanks,

Ari

Re: Disable Screen Saver & Call Display

I understand.

We've definitely heard the feedback to disable this feature but it is not something we can simply disable upon request.

These power and bandwidth saving features are standard across most, if not all TV services now. Even streaming services such as Netflix will eventually stop streaming if you do not have any inputs over a period of time.

I've been here awhile
I just reposted about this issue as I could not find this or any other thread on it, but a Resident Expert directed me here.

I do not find these answers acceptable. Not all other TV service providers are having this time limit, I just came back to Rogers after trying Bell and there was no timeout on their service. It is not about power saving, since we see the very small amount of power being used, and the TV still displays ads when it is in sleep mode. It must be that they are trying to save bandwith. I am paying for access to this service 24/7, so they have no right to limit my access by turning my device off after an arbitrary length of time. I AM still using it during that time, I just do not want to have to stop what I am doing to find the remote and press the button, and as others have stated for many people it is an accessibility issue also.

I will be complaining to the CRTC about this as Rogers has told me by phone and here in this forum that they have exhausted their willingness to do anything about it.

I will also say there are many things about Xfinity and the switch to IPTV that are much worse for me as a customer than the old legacy digital cable and this shift has not been to benefit consumers but to save costs for ISPs. We are not fooled.
