Moving to Chatr

I plan to stick around

Well, the day has come and Rogers has admitted we are no longer wanted.

My use is less than $6/month, so Chatr is my best option.   I have been on hold waiting to talk with a rep for 68 minutes at this point.

Has anyone managed to talk with one?

Well that was futile.  Call answered ten minutes ago.

They won't help you if you haven't already bought a Chatr Sim card.  The agent that I got didn't know if our balances would transfer over.

The Rogers person told me she didn't know the answer about balance transfer and that was a Chatr question.

Now, considering I reloaded my account less than a month ago,  want my balance transferred or a refund from Rogers.  I mean it's the least they can do.  I've had this account for 20 odd years and most certainly would not have reloaded my account in September if they had told us we were being disconnected on December 16.

I migrated my dad from Fido to Chatr, I had just done a yearly refill. I went to a Fido store, they did their thing and I was out of there within 10 minutes.
Plus, they transferred the balance (same plan).

OK, ten minutes at the Rogers store.

Balance won't be transferred to Chatr.

Migrated to a Rogers plan (I'm paid for a year).  We get a new SIM card.  They cut us a "deal" on the sign up fee of $70.  We get a 50% discount.  Personally, I feel we shouldn't have to pay for it.  Rogers closed our service down.

So until I burn my balance, I have more phone service than I need.  The $15/month Chatr plan meets my need but I wasn't walking away from $300 on my pay as you go plan.

And no, Rogers wouldn't transfer my balance to my Rogers internet account.

Yikes.. Do you know if the store you went to was corporate or a dealer?

And I'd try my luck here: https://www.rogers.com/contact/share-a-concern/

Hello  I was curious how much Credit was transferred over to Chtr - and was there any issue to transfer the credits like did they have to go through Fido via phone call or just 'flip a switch' . I am with Rogers Pay as You Go  hoping they CHTR will do the same for me.

Since I had done a yearly refill barely 3 days prior to the migration, they transferred the whole balance. The Fido employee called their internal support and what they did was transfer my dad's number from Fido to Chatr, close the Fido prepaid account and add $100 (plus tax) as the credit, to the newly created Chatr account, so the Fido employee could pick the $100/yr plan.

Hope that helps!

The Manager of the Rogers store I went to said the balance will not transfer to  CHATR.  I asked to have it applied to our Rogers home account, Nope.

When I spoke with CHATR (after holding for over an hour) they said they knew nothing about honouring balance transfers and it was a Rogers issue.

So basically, I have a Rogers plan that is prepaid until my balance runs out.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed by the phone experience with CHATR staff.  They also charge for certain transactions performed by a human being.

Thankyou I had gone to a Costco and asked there- they could not do it and suggested Rogers Corporate store might. You may have had the best luck because of the recent top up- I am hoping the same but my top was in July.

Thanks - I went to Costco and they couldn't do it and suggested a Rogers Corporate store might. Was it a Corporate store you went to?  If it was likely I will get the same spin.  I am still having a hard time with them getting the money upfront and not giving at least a credit. If someone took you money for a service and didn't come through like a contractor  that's fraud. Why is this different.

I went to a freestanding Rogers store.  Had to make an appointment to get in.

Re: Moving to Chatr

hello, I have 464.35$ in my prepaid fido phone during 19 years. I have phoned Fido for more than time with several rep but they kicked me to migration team, migration team to prepaid service, then to fido general service, no one answer the question on how to handle the balance. Does any one have other method to talk with Fido?

From my experience with Rogers Pay as You Go- it was frustrating yes and my 280 plus credit is gone but I got a 5.00 a month plan Talk and Text Canada Unlimited, just took it on the chin. But 60 a year is cheaper than I was paying 100. I went through the Migration team

I've been here awhile

I came late to this but will comment that Rogers are giving no options for credit transfer from PAYG (prepaid) even though it is Rogers who are calling time on this service offering. After several years of the $100 pa top-up and paying through the nose for my limited number of calls, I did put an iPhone on the Rogers network in April. At that time I kept the PAYG (originally held as an 'emergency phone') and was told by Rogers that remaining credit would transfer to my iPhone if I decided not to keep the PAYG. Times change I guess and I was fortunate to hear about Dec 12th before I did my late November annual top-up. I was transferred on my call three times before getting to the 'Migration Team' member. A very rude and intractable person to deal with who made no offer of credits. Although I haven't 'topped up' and I'm at the date, my old PAYG phone is still alive so it's possible they'll keep it going until Dec 12th - who knows..?

Rogers did send me a text reminding me to top-up or lose the balance credit --  LOL!

@Greybeard71-- file the CRTC complain STAT.

Complain via the Rogers Office of the President.  They will deal with you.

If you paid for your top up via credit card, report a fraudulent sale to your card company.  IE you were sold 12 months of service and only recieved six (or whatever).  You will most likely get a credit of the difference back to to your Visa or whatever.

I'm now a day after my top-up date and the remaining credit on the PAYG has been honoured. It looks like I'm good to use the phone until Rogers finally cut-off the service.

Re: Moving to Chatr

No confidence in the CRTC (CCTS) as I filed a complaint in July regarding Internet from Rogers. It took four months for the file to get picked up by the Complaints Resolution Officer (CRO). I did get a call from the Office of the President when the conversation was trite and unhelpful. CCTS have limits to their scope of influence and it's unclear if my complaint (sold 5G without having an adequate service from a single local tower) can be investigated within their TOR! Hard to believe but my view is the Telcos are largely unregulated when it comes to their obligations to a customer base. Rogers advised me to "go elsewhere" if I wasn't happy.

Planning to switch from Rogers prepaid to Chartr prepaid and KEEP my number.

Yesterday I bought a Chatr sim card and a $40 voucher from a Chatr store to get started.  The rep at the store said he can do the switch for me.

Is that correct or do I have to phone ROGERS and go thru them?

you always deal with the NEW company you are bringing your number into, never your old.  Your new provider will take care of the porting process which automatically cancels your old line once the number is transferred over.
