My ancient MotoE BYOD Pay-As-You-Go phone just died. Service was used as a backup for VoIP and voip SMS.
What's the cheapest and quickest way to restore this backup service. Assume just replacing the phone with an equally inexpensive device is the best option if possible. Will start at Newegg looking for unlocked devices but not certain which wireless network search terms to use for service compatibility.

Hello again @ancientminion,
Thanks for your reply! That sounds great.
If your current SIM card does fit in your new phone, we don't have to take action. If you need a new smaller one, pass by one of our retail location and they'll be abe to activate a new one for you.
Let us know if you have any other questions!

Good afternoon @ancientminion,
Welcome to the Rogers Community & thank you for your post! If you plan on using a mobile phone that you have purchased outside of Canada or from a different carrier, you may be able to use it with Rogers as long as it is "unlocked".
Devices that use the following frequencies are compatible with the Rogers network:
Network Technology | Frequency | Bands |
2G (GSM/EDGE) | 850 MHz | B5 |
3G (UMTS/HSPA) | 850 MHz | B5 |
4G LTE | 700 MHz | B12 |
4G LTE | 850 MHz | B5 |
4G LTE | 1900 MHz | B2, B25 |
4G LTE | 1700/2100 MHz (AWS) | B4, B66 |
4G LTE | 2600 MHz | B7 |
5G | 600 MHz | N71 (DSS) |
5G | 1700/2100 MHz (AWS) | N66 (DSS) |
5G | 2500 MHz | N41 |
1. If you are unsure how to check the frequencies your device supports, try the manufacturer's official website and search for the specifications for your particular phone/smartphone model. If your device is not compatible, check out the latest selection of Rogers mobile phones and smartphones.
2. If your device is currently locked, it needs to be unlocked.
3. To use your unlocked device, you need to buy a Rogers SIM card.
4. Once you've obtained a Rogers SIM card and the SIM card is already activated, simply insert your SIM card into your mobile phone or smartphone.
Hope this helps!

A clean Google Pixel XL seems to have a lot of overlap in GSM / HSPA / LTE bands. I assume this is good enough for voice and rarely received SMS.
Already have a SIM card in the dead phone but the form factor may be wrong. Assuming I just stick the old SIM in the new phone does Rogers have to do anything?
