cannot connect to bank website

rdms
I plan to stick around

For context, I have two wifi routers - one from Rogers (XB7), the other from Google.

Using a Windows laptop, connected to the Rogers router. Using Chrome browser, was unable to connect to one of the big five Canadian bank websites (it gave error something like couldn't reach the website). I tried the following to fix but no luck:

  • refresh/updated browser
  • cleared browser cache & cookies
  • tried MS Edge browser
  • tried to access another bank site

However, I was able to connect with other websites like CBC or CNN.

I then connected the laptop to the Google wifi ... voila ... was able to access the website.

Has anyone run into this before? Any settings on the Rogers router to avoid banking? Weird🤔

Hi @rdms, this is really odd. I have a few questions to get started:

1) Does the bank app work on your mobile phone connected to the WIFI?

2) Were you able to use the bank's website until recently? If yes, did you make any changes to the service?

3) Do you by any chance have Advanced Security enabled?

@-G- do you have any insights for this issue?

1) Does the bank app work on your mobile phone connected to the WIFI?

When I change my phone to the Rogers wifi and open up a banking app & enter credentials, I get the following error message: "We've encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. (0001)". On another banking app, it errors out with the message "We need a moment. Something went wrong on our end but we're working on it. Please try again later." On a third banking app, it doesn't even open the app - just hangs on title page. However, when I revert back to using the Google wifi ... no issues.

2) Were you able to use the bank's website until recently? If yes, did you make any changes to the service?

Was able to connect before ... no recent changes

3) Do you by any chance have Advanced Security enabled?

Yes

Interestingly, when I am connected to the Rogers wifi, when I try to open the Roger's HomeConnect app, it errors out with the message "Something went wrong. There's been an unexpected error. Please try again." But like above, when I connect to the Google wifi, no problem.

You asked all the right questions.

@rdms  Advanced Security sounds like a great feature but it is notorious for breaking web sites. You should disable Advanced Security and then reboot your Ignite Gateway.
