Rogers Yahoo - Some emails not being received.

gp_51
I've been around

An email contact that has sent many messages in the past is no longer able to send me emails. It bounces back to them. I am not able to see their email to inspect the header or see the message. I have tested mail coming from other sources and it seems to work fine. One was caught in spam but I know to look there. The sender has no issues sending to anyone else. How can I learn more about what is causing this?

Hi @gp_51,

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums, and thank you for your post! Are you able to send those contact emails without any issues?

You can check in your settings to ensure that you do not have them blocked by going to

  1. Click the Settings icon, then click More Settings.
  2. Click Security and Privacy.
  3. Under "Blocked addresses," check to see if you see any emails listed
  4. Select the email and click on the trash can icon next to it.

Depending on what email account they are using, they can try going into their settings as well and ensuring that they do not have you blocked.

Let us know if that helps.

I plan to stick around

My father-in-law has a similar situation. He used to get 2 summary emails a day from a service, but they stopped coming. We checked with the service, they said they are still sending them to him.

We chatted with a Rogers tech online, who said that if we marked the emails as spam accidentally, they would start to go to the spam folder, where we could un-mark them as spam and they would start to come back to the inbox. There are no messages in the spam folder. The tech said they have no control over the messages on the back end.

The service checked again and said their logs show 2 emails a day are going out and that we should get Rogers to whitelist their email address.

Can Rogers whitelist an email address or are we stuck?

Thanks

@allanp : Please check out my two posts in the following similar thread.

Are other people having similar issues with the "service". Is there any way to find out?

@57 thanks for the reply. The "service" is a funeral home that sends out summary listings twice a day of upcoming funerals. So it's not like they are blasting out unrequested ads. These are emails that people have requested to be subscribed to.

I emailed with one of the funeral home's representatives and he said that this has happened in the last year with some other Rogers customers, and that I have to ask Rogers to whitelist the email address. But if their email address has been blocked by Rogers, wouldn't all Rogers customers be prevented from receiving emails from that email address? As a test, I signed up with one of my Rogers email addresses a couple of days ago, and I received the listings no problem.

You would think that would be the case.  Since not all e-mails are being blocked, I don't know what more to suggest, except perhaps to check your spam folder again, or check for any "rules" that you have implemented to place certain e-mails into certain folders.  Or contact Rogers again, hoping for a better outcome.  The Funeral Home may wish to contact Rogers also as they may have more "clout" and may have a list of people not receiving their e-mails.

Just so you know, Rogers doesn't appear to be very interested in troubleshooting or fixing e-mails and, even though it may take years, the writing appears to be on the wall per the following FAQ:

https://www.rogers.com/support/internet/rogers-yahoo-mail-change-faq

Many people are switching their e-mails to Gmail or Yahoo! (not Rogers/Yahoo!) or their own domain due to several recent issues with Rogers/Yahoo!.

Yeah, I'd heard that. I'm a Bell internet customer for my home, and they are doing the same thing, I cannot create any more new Bell email addresses even though I have room in my allotment.

Here's a strange one though. You know that Rogers email address I mentioned earlier that I had signed up with to the funeral to test with? I just created that one a few days ago in the Rogers system by going to the Manage Email Accounts within the Rogers/Yahoo webmail. So the Add Secondary Email address is still functioning. For now. Maybe.

I thought I'd post in this thread instead of starting a new one.

1. In Rogers/Yahoo Webmail, I usually keep one e-mail message in my Inbox to preclude ads in that folder.

2. I've been keeping the same one there since 2017 since I recognize it and remember not to delete it.

3. A couple of days ago that e-mail did not appear in my "Mail" Inbox on my iPad - weird.  I got no error messages, but the particular saved e-mail didn't show up.

4. When I used Outlook (MS365) on my Mac (Legacy version), I got an on-screen pop-up message that said something like "Invalid Message Number".  Everything else worked fine in Outlook and in Mail.

5. After giving it a few days thought, I guessed that the particular e-mail was "too old" and was causing issues with Mail and with Outlook.

6. I deleted that old e-mail from my Webmail Inbox and all is fine again.  I'll have to remember not to delete my "new" placeholder, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps others if they ever run into a similar issue.

The error has come up again.  Looks like my "guess" may not have been completely correct.  I got a new email in my Webmail inbox, yet Outlook will not download it.  It seems that only one of my e-mail addresses is affected.  (I have several email addresses on Outlook).  The error message in Outlook is "Invalid message number."  Error Code is 16999, which I searched the web for and found some results, but none were helpful so far.  Seems to indicate a corrupt e-mail...  That's why when I delete it, the error message goes away, but the message comes through on my iPad - see below.

This time though, the message did come through in Mail on my iPad. Looks like I need to do more research.

This is getting weirder and weirder.

1. Sometimes I get certain e-mails properly in both Outlook (on my Mac Mini computer) and Mail (on my iPad).

2. Sometimes I only get the e-mails in Mail, but not Outlook.

3. Sometimes I don't get the e-mails at all in either Mail or Outlook.

4. Sometimes my e-mails are delayed by many hours. I got an e-mail this morning that was sent yesterday at noon.

5. Sometimes I get an "Invalid Message Number" in Outlook, but sometimes not.

The fact that this affects both Mail and Outlook leads me to believe this is a Rogers/Yahoo! issue.  I'll keep tracking and watching the web.  This is only affecting one of my e-mail accounts - for example, I have ABC@roges.com and XYZ@rogers.com and only one is affected.

It looks like this issue has been fixed (by Yahoo?).  I now receive all my e-mails in Outlook 365 on my Mac Mini and in Mail on my iPad properly again...
