Hello, @Alexa2020.

We welcome you to our Community. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the difficulty you're experiencing connecting your HP printer to your Xfinity modem after the recent upgrade.

We have had a few discussions regarding printer connectivity:

Solved: HP Printer not connecting to Ignite WiFi with Gen2

Solved: Cannot connect my Brother printer to Ignite networ...

We need more details to help you effectively:

  • What's the model of your printer?
  • Are you getting any error messages?
  • Does your printer only support the 2.4GHz band?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

can you check if your printer has a wired ethernet rj45 jack on it? some printers come with this, and if so, there is no need to connect it to wifi, even for wireless printing, it will still work if you connect it to the rj45 ethernet jack,  some thing people may not be aware of

So I run a Ethernet cable from printer to modem? Or printer to laptop??

Ethernet goes from printer to modem but check if the printer has ethernet first.

Splitting my Xfinity internet did not solve the connection issue for my HP printer. Any other solutions?

What are the model numbers of your HP printer and your Xfinity Gateway?  Some older printers, with old Wi-Fi hardware and firmware that has not been updated in years, will refuse to connect to more current Wi-Fi network hardware.

If you have an XB8 Gateway, you may need to downgrade to using WPA2 security on your Wi-Fi networks.

It is an XB8. I will try downgrading to WPA2. Printer is an old but a goody 1415cfm

Unfortunately that did not work. My printer claims to connect now but there is no internet connection.

@Cmal from what I've seen online, that printer should have a 10/100 Mb/s ethernet port on it, right hand side when you're looking at it from the back end.  Is the printer close enough to the modem so that you can connect the printer to the modem?  If so, have you already tried this?  With the printer connected to the modem via ethernet, you might have to change the print path to the printer.  Never know, maybe the printer driver will automatically determine the correct path and port settings.

I did try this initially to see if that would be a solution. While I did not have problems previously I am going to purchase 100 feet of Ethernet cord so I don’t have to rearrange things

Does your home have ethernet wiring in the walls which might not be in use?  Or do you have telephone ports which are not used, and potentially connected via Cat-5e wiring?  If so, that Cat-5e wiring can be repurposed to support ethernet instead of a telephone line.

Any chance that the printer has an IP address running that isn't within the IP address range of the XBx

modem?  The Hitron modems used a base address of 192.168.0.1 with a useable address range of .2 to .255.  The XBx modems use a base address of 10.0.0.1, with a useable address range of 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.255.

If you used the printer with the previous Hitron modem, perhaps it still has the old address embedded in its system data.  A printer reset might resolve that issue if there isn't an obvious method to clear out any pre-existing IP address.

If you drill down into the printer settings, you should be able to find its IP address.  You would have to do that via front panel display.  I haven't read thru the installation instructions, so, I'm assuming that it has a front panel which allows you to access the printers system data.
