Device upgrade timing for Upfront Edge

I've been here awhile

I'm in Upfront Edge Program with monthly device credits which is coming to an end in July. The terms tell me I should return my phone by July 06, 2023 to avoid repayment of Upfront Edge Amount. My question is,

  1. If I upgrade my device now (to Pixel 7), will I still receive the remaining credit on my bill for the following 3 months? If yes, what will happen to the new financing term (for Pixel 7)? If no, when should I upgrade my phone so I can receive all device credits (for the following 3 months) yet still not too late that have to pay back the Upfront Edge amount?
  2. Do I have to wait for the bill ending in June in order to receive all device credit?
  3. If it's a yes from question 2, does that mean I only have a 6-day window to return my phone? Considering I have to wait for the return kit to arrive, I'm not sure if I can return my phone before July 6. Even worse, I will be out of Canada in the whole July. What should I do?

Thanks for contributing to the Community and Congrats on your first post with us! 🙌 A new device is always exciting! The Google Pixel 7 is a great option with an impeccable camera if I must say so myself.

 

When will you be returning back to Canada? Once the Upfront Edge date has expired, a grace period of 60 days will allow you to complete an upgrade and receive your Upfront Edge credit back on your next bill cycle as well. As you will be travelling, I would recommend that you go in store in your final month of your term to do the upgrade for the best experience. That way, you can get your new phone on the spot and can also do the return at the same time at a participating Rogers Retail Location

 

If you would like to upgrade before your 2-year Upfront Edge term ends, the following two options would apply:

 

1. You can keep your phone and repay your Upfront Edge amount. In this case, the Upfront Edge amount will be charged on your next bill.

 

2. You can return your phone in good working condition via Care, Self-Serve (with hardware upgrade) or at a participating retail location when you upgrade your device. If you return your phone, you’ll not be charged your Upfront Edge amount. However, if you upgrade early, you’ll be charged the remainder of your financing amount as well. For my financing term ends on July 06, 2023, does it means that the Upfront Edge repayment amount will only appear on my bill no earlier than the end of August? (July 6 + 60days = September 4). Or the 60 grace period only applies if I contact Rogers for a return/upgrade? If it's the case, when should I do that? before July 6? end of July? September 4?
Sadly, Pixel 7 has the monthly payment went from $3.88 to $9.88 since 2 days ago... Do I still be able to finance it with the old price? Or maybe I should look forward to another offer in July. Do you have any tips for any upcoming offers?

Just to clarify, you would need to return the device in the final month of your 2-year term (month 24) in the event that you are not retaining the device at the end of the agreement. The 60 day grace period only applies in the event that the return is part of a hardware upgrade after the term expires.

 

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that the cost of the Google Pixel 7 has changed. 😥 As a consumer myself, I too can appreciate some savings. Have you decided if you are retaining the device or returning it and then completing an upgrade? In the event that you are looking to complete an upgrade at this time, the cost would be the amount reflective via our rogers.com website.

 

As our offers are always changing and evolving, if I may suggest keeping an eye on our current promotions and offers page for any offers we may have at this time?

I've been around
My 2 year term on S21Ultra ended June 30th. To avoid fees for early return I ordered a brand new S23+ online with a separate phone # and tranferred the files and account/SIM at home and returned my old phone in the store after last bill was released June 5th. I would highly recommend this approach. HOWEVER July 1came, and I got a notification stating that Rogers was charging me $780 for not returning my phone that they had for 3 weeks - called customer service and was told they need 40 days allowance for a phone to be shipped back and then assessed and it had not been even received yet in their system. This 5-6 week return time period ensures everyone gets billed - shame on Rogers for not improving the shipment from store and assessment time in under a 4wk billing cycle window to allow consumers to prevent this charge. So my advice is when you return it to a store make sure you get a confirmation photo of the return paperwork and do it as early as possible so that hopefully the return goes through prior to next bill. As is now July 5th bill I need to give Rogers $780 with automatic withdrawal Jul 30th until a credit goes through Aug 30th - and that is just a credit.
