I had Shaw mobile lines and then it got converted to Rogers.
Recently one of my kids phone with 1gb data plan was charged at the rate of $378 per GB.
I called Rogers but they are not helping and saying that contract is set at $3 per MB for overage charge. I would be willing to pay reasonable amount like $10 per GB as was the case with Shaw. The rate applied is outrageous.

@rockymiuntains : Another option is to switch to a prepaid plan (either monthly or yearly), especially if you subscribe to only 1GB. In this way, you put money in the account and when the money runs out, no overages. There are lots of plans for $5-25/month and some at $150/year, etc. that provide unlimited calling (Canada or Canada/US depending on the plan) and unlimited international texting while in Canada. The more data you want, the more you pay per month/year obviously.
Most of these plans also allow for top-ups of data if required. The rate is higher than the monthly prepaid rate, but lower than "outrageous".
One other thing to do is go into the phone's settings to minimize data usage. The default settings are never good at that. There are lots of links on the web on how to minimize data usage depending on the make/model of phone.
