Receiving call from Rogers offering discount and an Apple Watch

Hi.

I would like to know if anybody received a call from any Rogers agent telling that your number was selected and it qualify for getting a discount and also they offered an Apple Watch with no additional cost.

I found stranger the call, and then I received a code in my email address associated to my Rogers account. The representative said that I could not access my profile throught the App for two days, this after he confirming the code sent to my email, and changed my password.

I was very afraid of it and I asked to undo everything. Is that normal, the provider do this kind of call and offer discount plus giving away any item?

Hi @mobalves,

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums, and thank you for sharing your most recent experience with us here.

Generally, if you are eligible for a special offer, you could receive a special promotion email or text message letting you know the details of the offer, and then you would then be able to accept it through your MyRogers account.

From what you have described, this does sound like a scam call, and I do hope that you did not provide any personal information on the call. Also, if you did provide any access to your email, you should change and update your password immediately.

You can refer to our website here on ways to identify these type of calls and what to do in most situations.

I received the same call today. I did provide me email but thought it was very suspicious. I called rogers after and reported it. They confirmed no such deal exists and this is likely a scam.

I just got a call telling me I was picked for a promotion for a Samsung s23 ultra for 40% off. They told me my monthly bill would be $70 a month with my existing plan. They would guide me through an application I accepted and gave them my email, date of birth and my home address and then they ask for my driver's license for a verification that's when I knew it was sketchy so I told them I was not interested anymore I called rogers and ask them to verify if I was picked for a promotion and they said they didn't find any record of any promotion and also said Roger's wouldn't need you to fill out an application since I was a rogers customer already. I have changed my Rogers password an email and hopefully I'm not a victim of this scam

I received a call from these two numbers - 647-376-9590 and 647-396-3413 saying I am eligible for 40% discount and free upgrade for my phone. I also gave my email ID and I was being suspicious and came to this forum. I disconnected the first call and then got call from the second number I mentioned. He said his name was James Noble (LOL) and that he understands my concern that it maybe a scam but I will receive my new phone in 2-3 business days. He also said that we are losing our customers to our competitors that is why few long term customers are getting this promotion LOL LOL. I saw the email I got which clearly says employees will never ask for this verification code. Please be aware incase someone else receives the similar call. People are getting creative with scams.

I should have come here first. I was just offered 35% off my bill for 1 year and an Iphone watch. Sadly, I did give them my email, home address, name, date of birth. . , I hate being scammed. The call came from number Victoria 250-412-6043 then after I hung up on them they called back with 250-412-6043. He also told me I could call back to confirm at 825-858-1217. He said his name was Alex Cutler, an oddly western name for a person with a thick Indian accent.

This western name thing is what they dont get! Like sir you are literally talking to an Indian and i am not going to fall for your name. I received a similar call yesterday for amazon prime membership Lol. I literally made his life miserable on call in 5 mins, and he disconnected lol.

Hi @wendybendy,

Welcome to the Community!

I always advise our users to exercise caution while providing or confirming personal/financial info over the phone, text or the Internet.

I would suggest you keep an eye on your bank and credit card statements as well as your Rogers bills to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. Please contact the respective institution if you do not recognize any charges or purchases you did not make.

Re: Receiving call from Rogers offering discount and an Apple Watch

Just received a call from 647-597-3521 offering 40% off my current bill.  I did not give any information and told the person I would go into the Rogers store to talk to someone about this offer.  He immediately came back in a very sarcastic tone "yeah, you go to the store RIGHT NOW".... then I hung up 🤣🤣 ... nice try!!!
