Phone Stolen by Identity Theft Fraud

ExtremelyUpset
I've been here awhile

The absolute WORST WORST WORST FRAUD 'Support' ever. I am writing this here because I can't come up with any other ideas as to how to get in touch with Rogers. Almost a month ago I destroyed my phone and ordered a new one. I was advised it was dropped off at the Purolator office but when I went to pick it up someone supposedly had been in earlier with my ID and stolen the phone. I was advised to contact Purolator and let them know. I did , and we spoke back and forth for a week while they completed their investigation. At the end of it they told me they were not responsible and it was Roger's problem. I then spent a week contacting Rogers. When I say I spent a week it's because every time I called I was put on hold and transferred to many different departments after telling my story in excruciating detail to every single person who answered the phone they would say oh I can't help you I'll have to transfer you to somebody else. Eventually I was told that my case was under investigation and Rogers would get back to me. After hearing nothing and  approximately another 30 phone calls back and forth I finally managed to get a hold of Rogers and they told me that the case was closed because they had fulfilled their end of the bargain. They had shipped the phone via Purolator and it was purolator's problem. I contacted Purolator again to let them know this is what Rogers said. At that time Purolater told me that Rogers had been trying to get in contact with me? Impossible. How is this possible when I had been calling them multiple times a day every day for the last couple of weeks? Well,I tell you.  Apparently there's another department in Rogers called the fraud department that was trying to contact me and their notes on the file, according to Purolator said that I was NOT returning their messages. Can anyone guess why I wasn't returning their messages? It's because they were trying to contact me on the phone that was stolen. Bloody brilliant. Please keep in mind I had spoken to Roger's well over two dozen times at this point and given them multiple contacts numbers to get a hold of me at. Please also note that I have been with Rogers for two decades and they have my email address on file and have no problem getting a hold of me when they are trying to sell me new devices. So now I try to reach some guy named Michael in the fraud department and did you know that the people who answer the phone when you call Rogers can't directly contact the fraud department? Apparently it's a magical department where you can't contact them they can only contact you. I have sent multiple messages for the past week trying to get them to call me back on the temporary phone number I have and haven't heard a peep. It's been almost a month without a phone so I am trying to be creative in my approach. Hence this long-winded message in the Forum hoping that somebody somehow will reach out to me and fix this problem. Yes I have filed a police report and although they empathize with me they certainly aren't going to give me a phone.

Can I cancel my rogers account? Sure, but apparently I order to do so, I must return the stolen phone or else get charged for it.

I just lived the exact same thing today. I hope I can get it fixed quickly as I'm out of a phone now! Someone picked up the phone a little before me with a fake ID!!

SAME THING happening to me today. Also, if you google Purolator fraud, you'll find a few articles specifically mentioning Rogers devices being intercepted. Sounds like Rogers and/or Purolator have a privacy breech issue on hand which makes me super uneasy about continuing my services with them!!

Did you get a replacement? The same thing happened to me yesterday, and I reported it to Rogers, filed a police report and contacted Purolator.

Re: Phone Stolen by Identity Theft Fraud

@Sul_lanada if you believe that someone is impersonating you, with fake ID to boot, you should contact Equifax and Transunion Canada to place fraud alerts on your credit file.  You should also check your credit history and credit score with those companies to ensure that you don't have unauthorized accounts with other companies.

Thank you I’ll look into that and make sure I don’t have unauthorized accounts.

Re: Phone Stolen by Identity Theft Fraud

@Sul_lanada make sure that Equifax Canada and Transunion Canada place fraud alerts on your credit file and make sure that there are explicit instructions placed on file to contact you in the event that anyone attempts to run a credit check or obtain credit from any institution.  That alert will remain on file for at least 5 years.
