Thank you! This worked for me! I tried through chrome, then Google browser and it didn't work but when I opened up an incognito browser and signed in through rogers and tried to activate it again it worked!

Instead of activating through Shaw you need to go to rogers.com/activate. I was able to get my fire stick authorized and could see the Xfinity app but anytime I selected a channel. It gave me an error and would not actually work. Still trying to get through that problem

use rogers.com/activate instead of going to the Shaw website.

Can you please help me get my Rogers Xfinity app for fire tv working (For a Rogers customer)

Re: rogers xfinity app for fire stick

just open another browser on your mobile device and type in rogers.com/activate.

It should give you a six digit code that you then input onto your fire stick device

Anyone know if this can be sideloaded on AndroidTV boxes?  Isn't FireTV a fork of AndroidTV?

Re: rogers xfinity app for fire stick

I tried but it just does not work after the activation.  The app just displays a black screen

I got a new FireTV HD stick (for $25) and have installed this app.  It works pretty well, although it is certainly slower than the Rogers boxes.  The UI isn't great as in the guide screen it only shows one hour of shows rather than three hours that you see on the boxes.  They should really give you an option to have a more compact guide.

But certainly this is a better solution than to pay $230/ year ($17x12+HST) to rent a box.

So far the downsides for me are the remote isn't as good as the Rogers remote and the slower response time.

Can closed captioning be enabled with the Xfinity Firestick app?

On a side note, is the Xfinity app available on Google TV? On a PC browser I can see it under Google Play but it's not found under the Google TV platform. I can only deduce that the Google TV platform only supports a subset of the apps under Google Play but I am not 100% sure.

When watching a show using the Xfinity Firestick app, I just click the center/enter button twice at it brings up closed captioning option. Hoping others can list other shortcuts they have found using the app and the Firestick remote.

I started using the new FireTV app to access my Rogers Xfinity service.  Note that this is for Rogers in Eastern Canada - not the former Shaw area.  I bought a new FireTV Stick HD for $25 from Amazon.

For the most part the app works pretty well. When I start recordings or watch Live TV it takes about 3-4 seconds to start playing.  When I press the >> button to skip forward 30 seconds there is very little delay.  The UI is a bit different than with the STBs but that is to be expected.

Issues

  • At times I have seen very slow playback from this device.  Last night I was trying to use the device and to start playing a channel or recording was taking 30 seconds and the playback was constantly buffering.  My internet connection seemed fine at the time.  Today everything is working well again.  So far this is an isolated issue, but I have only been using it for three days.  How do I troubleshoot this issue?
  • Video quality looks a bit worse than with an Xi6 STB, but I am not 100% sure if that is the case.  Anyone else try doing an A/B comparison?
  • There does not seem to be an easy way to FF or REW other than pressing the >> or << buttons which moves 30 seconds at a time.  So if you want to move three hours to the end of a football game it will take a while.  Anyone figure a way out with this?

Questions

  • It appears that one shortcoming of this app is that it does not support 4K channels, even if you have a 4K FireTV device.  Is this something that can be added in the future?
  • The TV Guide is very meagre compared to the IgniteTV box as the display only shows one hour rather than three hours.  Can this be improved?
  • Will the performance of the ervice/device be significantly improved having the fastest FireTV device, which I believe is the FireTV 4K Max. Or is the performance bottleneck the app and the buffering inherent in a streaming device.
  • Any recommendations regarding hardware, internet connection, LAN type (ethernet vs 2.4GHz Wifi vs 5GHz Wifi) to maximize performance?
  • Is there a limit to the number of Xfinity playback devices or will performance start to degrade?  I have four boxes and one FireTV using this app.  Can I watch five streams at once?  What about 8? Or 10?
  • Will Rogers be releasing Xfinity Stream apps for other platforms like AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku, Samsung, etc?  I believe that such apps exist with Comcast Xfinity.
  • Has anyone tried sideloading this app on AndroidTV devices?  Does it work?  Any shortcomings?

Clicking the center/enter button twice to enable CC works like a charm. Thanks.

I've  only used the Firestick Rogers Xfinity app on my Firestick HD for a few days and so far no buffering issues on 5GHz Wifi. As HD streaming only needs 25-40 Mbps you should be fine if you meet this requirement.

A quick search suggests that Rogers allows five concurrent streaming devices per account, excluding their TV streaming boxes, and that up to 2 of those can be away from home.

Another interesting observation is that if  you pause live TV, and then resume 2 minutes later (for example), you'll be back to real time programming, so those 2 minutes worth of content would be lost. I thought I'll point this out as it's different than the Rogers TV boxes where you can actually pause and resume without loosing a beat.

That's not good, especially if you are watching sports.  I generally record everything that I am interested in and watch recordings, rather than watching live TV.

You can pause and restart recordings no problem. My comment was specifically for pausing live TV., which comes in handy if you need to pause to take a call or go for bio breaks.

Also noticed that the Firestick Xfinity app has stereo audio output only and no DD5.1.
Mods...would you be able to find out if this will be enhanced in the future and perhaps submit it as a suggestion if possible? Thanks.

To FF / Fast Forward or REW / Rewind at high speed on the Rogers Xfinity Stream app for Amazon Fire TV Stick, use the remote control's Navigation Circle Pad:

  • press "Up" to display the time remaining bar
  • then press "Left" to display a small time box above the bar
  • then press "Left" to REW, or "Right" to FF, in small increments, or keep pressing down to accelerate through the recording
  • then press the centre "Select" button to start playing at the currently selected time bar spot

Thanks, I will give that a try.  It sounds like a bit of a convoluted process but hopefully you get used to it quickly.

Simply pressing "left' (rewind) and 'right' (FF) would also work.

It does, but I think that just does 30 seconds at a time.  So if you want to join a recording two hours in you have 240 button pushes to get there.

Unless I am missing something.

Rather than repeated presses you can just held the button down. Just suggesting this approach as an option.

The steps outlined by MeSS definitely work; and for step 1 I believe you can also press 'enter' instead of 'up' to display the time remaining bar.

Re: rogers xfinity app for fire stick

Agreed, this is a somewhat convoluted process, but it can forward through a 3 hour recording in ~5 seconds.

For Step (1) you can press several keys to display the Time Remaining Bar, including:

Up, Select/Centre/Enter, Down, Pause, <<, >>

Although, for Step (2), pressing "Left" appears to be the only way to display the necessary small, semi-transparent time box above the bar, which activates the ability to rapidly scan across the time bar.

The key is to then keep pressing down on Left or Right, which accelerates the scanning speed to 1000x+
