Channel line up

I've been around

I'm new to ignite and don't understand the channel list. Why are channels in lower numbers (under 100) then the apparently same channels appear in upper channels.

The channels under 100 are the ones that many (especially older) people were used to from many years past.  These and others are often duplicated in higher channels according to theme - timeshift, movies, sports, news, kids ethnic, French, etc.

These are simply "remapped" and do not require any additional bandwidth.

Extra note: I still have the old Legacy digital TV service with the PVR, and due to a dumb recording flaw (for consecutive recordings within the same channel number guide slot), having at least two duplicates of a channel, avoids the recording flaw (without having to use clumsier workarounds).

Another unintended bonus for having duplicate channel numbers is that if you have certain number bottoms no longer working, you can often press different number bottoms to get to the channel you want (without needing to use the Guide to get there). I also don't have to rush to use my newer remote.

MSNBC is one of the few channels that I watch that has only ONE options - on HD channel 185, without even an SD option alternate.

Xfinity doesn't work that way. If you set a recording on a channel, the recording actually "goes" to the lowest channel number that has that programme.  For example, if you set a recording on Channel 519 (TSN4) the channel that is recorded is actually Channel 30.  Sometimes if the programme is on a different channel, the recording setting may even switch to a different broadcaster.  In this way, the programme of interest is always (mostly) recorded, even if there are changes to where it aired.

You can modify most recordings so that it "stays" on a particular broadcaster if you like.  All totally different from Digital TV.

Also, no need for "bottoms". Simply say the channel name or programme into the voice control.
