5G Home Internet Nokia Fast Mile needs rebooting periodically - Can't Rogers do this remotely?

diyguy88
I've been here awhile

I have a 5G Nokia Fast Mile router up at our cottage in Lakefield ON since mid June and signal is not an issue,  I get full bars all the time, but over the last week, my router loses connectivity and I cannot access my IP cameras from the GTA.  My neighbour has access to reboot it for me, but that  troublesome and cannot be a long term solution.  Can Rogers reboot the router remotely, or is a physical power off/on the only way?

Thx

I am somewhat close to you up the 507 north of Buckhorn and I too have had to reboot my Nokia FastMile 5G 3.2 modem a few times. I'm getting terribly inconsistent speeds as well. My friend who is a network specialist in Peterborough suggested the reboots may be connected to brown outs and power interruptions that plague our area. We recently bought an uninterrupted power supply and surge protector to help. So far it has.

Hi @diyguy88,

Thank you for joining the conversation here on the Rogers Community Forums! We appreciate your concern about having a stable connection, and we do hope you are able to get the best use out of the wireless Internet service.

While we would not be able to reset the hardware remotely, we can send a signal to refresh the signal in the SIM card, and that can help to resolve some issues you may be experiencing if you are not at the location to complete a physical reboot. If you are still experiencing issues, a physical reboot may be required to as well ensure that the equipment is receiving power.

I plan to stick around

We have No power issues and experience the same problem lately with this Nokia router.

Had same issue with the previous Rogers Fixed Wireless Access.

Its likely a memory leak somewhere in the device (retired Computer Systems Engineer) and Rogers is basically useless for support. But that's another story.

I use smarts plug that I put on a schedule to power off at 3 am and 1 minute later 301am power the router back on. You can set a schedule up to do it a few times a day if you want.

That way it is done without having to call your neighbour and have them do it.

I can see the signal drop (if I can get connected to the router) from -98db with 8db SNR (best I can get) to over -124db with 0-1db SNR, which is basically not useable. The reboot sets it back to a much better signal.

I have smart plugs on all my cameras, routers, mesh network equipment, and router. Not all at the same time but after the router reboots. The ones I use for Can and Florida.

Saves a lot of hassles with poor connection or when the cameras need a reboot as well.
