For the longest time I’ve had 500mbs internet with the black wifi modem
pictured here (XB6) I had it in bridge mode connected with my own wifi router and extender. It ran perfectly with no issues. I would almost always be over 500mbs download and over 30 upload (my plan was 500 down 30 up). Yesterday while on the phone, as soon as they changed my package to 1gb down and 50 up, my speeds dropped to just over 300mbs down and about 38 up. They told me to turn everything of and unplug my wifi router and to unplug the cable and power to the rogers router after they insisted on taking it out of bridge mode stating that’s why I’m not getting proper speeds. I’ve had nothing but problems with this modem and insisted I wanted one of the new white ones from rogers. When rogers first came out with 1gb internet, they automatically switched you from the black modem to the white one. Now she says they only do it with 1.5gb speed. I lose my connection everyday at least once with the black one even in bridge mode. Sometimes up to 5 times per day. I still have rogers ignite wifi pods registered to my account even though I don’t use them. I have read in this forum that they are the cause of my XB6 to be unable to switch wifi channels. I tried to return them during Covid but they refused to take them back which is why I got my own wifi router and bridged the rogers XB6. Prior to this my internet with only the rogers equipment would stop working every afternoon starting at 3pm when the internet traffic picks up. A technician is coming out tomorrow morning. Ive insisted they give me the white newer modem but they seemed reluctant on the phone. I’m convinced my XB6 is either dysfunctional or the incorrect one for 1gb or faster internet. Anyone with any thoughts or help on this?

@Uncleshekki : The XB6 modem is perfectly capable of speeds of 1 Gbps, (usually 940 Mbps after overhead).
You can test the speed to the modem, by taking it out of bridge mode and connecting a computer capable of at least 1 Gbps via an Ethernet cable, or by using the Home Connect app. WiFi tests can be all over the map (see link below). Please see additional information in the following link:
Edit - The XB6 has 2 Ethernet ports. If you're using an Ethernet connection to your computer or to a bridged router, try the second port.

I did a factory reset. Got on the phone with tech support and got an Ethernet speed of 341mbs down and 48.3 mbs up

1. What did tech support say?
2. Was that speed with the Gateway/modem in default Rogers mode with the computer directly connected to the one Ethernet port, then the other of the Gateway/modem (not bridged)?
3. Did you do the test I mentioned using the Home Connect App - link again below?
If the app says you're getting the speed at the modem, then the issue is very likely with your equipment or setup or software, or OS, as outlined in my previous link
Have you tried running two (or more) speedtests at the same time using two (or more) devices and adding up the results (say 300-500 Mbps on each)

Tech support suggested I talk to the technician coming out tomorrow
the test using the home connect app says I’m getting 1905 mbs so more than my 1gb. But it doesn’t explain why this black rogers wifi router in its default setup state can’t put out anywhere close to 1gb. I’m not even expecting the whole 1905 mbs that the app claims is coming to the rogers router
I only tested the speed at the one Ethernet port number 1 which had the 341mbs down and 48 up.
I just don’t get why the speed would drop buy buying faster internet. I max out at under 500mbs every time on Speedtest both over wifi and hardwired in. And I was over 600 mbs with my 500 plan

I also just side two speed tests at the same time over wifi. If you add them together they add up to about the speeds I’ve been getting. At this hour of night I got just over 500 total and about 49 on the upload total. So it’s still spitting out slower speed than my 500 plan with the same default setup

1. This does not surprise me as it is the speed coming to your modem. Your modem is capable of 1 Gbps, so you won't see more than 940 Mbps or so on an Ethernet connection. This means that Rogers have done their job. It is now your job to figure out why you're getting less than 1 Gbps.
2. How did you test this? Did you have your computer connected directly to the modem via Ethernet and the modem in default (not bridged) mode?
3. Try port 2.
4. Stuff happens over time.

Perhaps the technician can diagnose the issue and perhaps he will provide you with an XB7 or XB8 replacement gateway. Perhaps your XB6 is improperly provisioned and the technician should be able to test that and get the same speed results you do.
