Why does my Ignite TV signal keep dropping out? Is there an issue with the older Ignite Boxes?

Hello, @ab_chat.
Thank you for your post, and welcome to our Community!
Experiencing a TV signal drop can significantly impact your viewing experience; is your TV screen showing a black screen? I'm curious if your TV box is losing the Internet connection. How is it connected to your home network via WiFi or Ethernet?
When your TV box drops the signal, do you lose Internet on the other devices?
Please provide us with more details so we can work towards a resolution.
Cheers,

So when the signal first drops sometimes it freezes and then goes to black, but mostly it goes straight to black. When it goes to black, if you press the guide button you get the RDK-03117 error message. If you wait about 5 or 10 minutes, when you press the guide button the guide will come on but when you exit the guide it goes back to black. You have to select a channel that you were not watching when it first went to black to get the picture to come back. Then usually within an hour it will go black again and you have to go through the process again. The TV is connected by WiFi. After reading some of the other posts, I have connected the TV box to the modem by ethernet cable and it seems to hold the picture.
When the TV box drops the signal I don't lose the internet on the computer but it is hooked up to the modem by ethernet cable.

Hello, @robhead.
I appreciate you reading other posts and connecting the TV box with the Ethernet cable. I'm glad that your box is not dropping the connection. We are here to help if we need to revisit this or any other concern.

So my take away from this is that the TV Box has lost its ability to function as a continuous WiFi receiver. Does that mean that the TV Box can be considered defective? As it is, the only reason I can hook up the TV by ethernet cable is because the TV is only 4 feet from the modem. It would no longer be practical to have the TV in any other room.

Hello, @robhead
I have heard of some situation where if the TV box is too close to the modem is can cause issues. In these situations, connecting via ethernet is ideal.
You can test this by moving the box to another TV that is further away from the modem to see if the issues persist. If yes, it may be a defective box. Please let us know if the issues are happening at another location.
Let us know how it goes.
