Lg Velvet Security Patch

I've been here awhile

My LG Velvet has not updated with the Aug Security Patch. As a result my work apps were wiped from my phone. How can i force this patch onto my phone? I have Android 13 and my phone says it is up to date.

You can't! LG has been out of the smartphone market for years now. All of their devices are now beyond the support window.

Except I have the July patch. On their website it shows an Aug patch is available.

Re: Lg Velvet Security Patch

Looks like the accepted solution is wrong.  Apparently LG left the cell phone business in 2020, but, promised 5 years of software updates.  It does look like LG is making good on their promise, but, users outside of Korea have to wait for any upcoming updates.  So, it doesn't look like there is any way to predict when the updates are available.

Does the phone indicate that a new security patch is available, but refuse to load it?

I wonder if that can be downloaded from an LG support site other than Canada.  When you go to the LG site, you're automatically directed to the Canadian support pages and the Android version for all of the LG Velvet 5G phones shows up as V12.  So, the web site isn't kept up to date.

I don't have a solution other than looking at other national site pages to see if the latest Android 13 update is available.  If that can be loaded, it might present other issues such as poor 5G connectivity, as the firmware version would be adapted for that country and probably would not have the cell phone frequencies for Canada loaded within the firmware.  I suspect that you might have to wait for an updated version.

You can always check with the LG forums within the XDA community to see what you can find:

Here's a link to an LG Velvet article from the XDA site:

@mgra which website are you looking at that shows the Aug update?

Verizon only shows the July update:  https://www.verizon.com/support/lg-velvet-5g-uw-update/

Re: Lg Velvet Security Patch

Those updates were only promised to the Korean market. Not the rest of the world from what I read back when they were closing their smartphone division. Where products sold outside of South Korea, they only had 2 years of software updates with one more year of security updates.

Devices beyond the first coue of years of that support for any manufacturer almost never get monthly security updates outside of the Pixel line. Quarterly at best but some even 6 months apart or further.

LG used RSA keys to to prevent firmware cross-flashing so trying to update to a firmware the device isn't on won't work. Trying to cross-flash firmware to a different device version of the same model, even if the hardware is exactly the same, will hard brick the device.
