This year I've been approached twice by door-to-door sales offering to match my current ISP price for a much faster package than I currently have. I accepted the first offer late last December, and signed the contract on the sales person's tablet which showed the correct agreed-upon price. I tried to delay installation until the end of January so that I could sync up with the cancellation of service with my current ISP.
Unfortunately as my cancellation date with my current ISP loomed, I received no modem from Rogers. I spoke with customer service several times but they were unsuccessful in giving me an expected date to receive the modem (I was going the self-install route). I finally had to cancel my order as my service was about to stop and I would be left with no Internet.
Fast forward to last week and I agreed to another contract matching my ISP's rate for the 2Gb Pro Ignite package. The sales persons had clearly one experienced person and one trainee. The experienced guy did all the talking and got me to sign a contract that was $35 per month more than my current ISP's price, saying that I'll receive an email from Rogers with an update to match my current ISP's price after he submits his info. I didn't worry as I knew that I can always cancel.
Several business days (plus a weekend) have gone by and I've seen only an email from Rogers confirming the higher price that I'd signed to. There has been no updated price. I've tried to postpone installation back one week to give more time and though they rescheduled for a week later, suddenly I get another notification that they are installing tomorrow. It seems they really want to try to lock me in without first confirming the actual rate I'm going to pay.
Does this sound familiar to anyone else out there? On my first round I at least had a contract with the correct price shown and it conveniently got screwed up so that it couldn't be honored within a reasonable timeframe. This second round is now some verbal promise of a "better rate to be confirmed" that doesn't happen. I'm beginning to think that the low price-matching rate is just a sham.

I was looking for a place to edit my post, but nothing is available. I called customer service again today and they confirmed an "interaction number" for the agreed-upon price, so at least something is in the system. Hopefully all will go smoothly when the actual first bill is posted.
