Pay As You Go - Porting phone number to Rogers

smcleish
I'm new here

I am thinking of switching to Rogers prepaid.  I also have prepaid with current carrier.  I want to bring my cell phone number with me to Rogers.

Do I need to contact Rogers to port my number before signing up for my prepaid account with Rogers?  How long does it take to port phone number from carrier to carrier?

You CAN port your home phone line to a NEW prepaid (pay as u go) line. You have many ways of doing this, you can A) go into a store and activate the pay as u go line, and during the course of the activation, you can give them your home phone number and billing account number, and they will request the port during activation. You can also call into pay as u go customer service, yes there is an option to speak to an agent, its there, but you have to listen to the prompts, I have not tried myself as I am not with pay as u go but lots of people on here post which keypresses you need to enter to reach a live agent, try searching and give it a try

Hello, @smcleish

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums! Smiley Happy

You should be able to port your number, I would suggest to reach out to our Pay As You Go department to obtain full details. Please dial 1-800-575-9090, after confirming the language, Press 4, then Press 4 again. At the end of the third menu, press 1 to reach an agent quickly.

Cheers,

RogersMoin

Before you do that, take a look at 7-11 Speakout (provided of course that your phone is unlocked). Their rates are cheaper and all plans are good for a year. Don't know about other features though.

Yup  ... I agree Old Yeller   ,be sure you check out the competition before you sign up here  ... Just got my bill with the new $ 5  addition and 4 dollars of long distance that was incurred while sitting in my house Smiley Mad  .  All I want is 60 minutes of canada wide  talk and  250 text messages  a month  for twent bucks or less .... After talking to customer service it seems the only place it is available is from the competition ... so I guess it's bye bye  Rogers .

I did have to chuckle as the CSR told me how the 5 dollars was to improve the Rogers infrastructure.   He didn't say much when I explained to him that that was lovely for those who are surgically attached to their phone  but it is actually  costing me because  my local calling area has moved due to the so called improvements  and a high percentage of my calls are now long distance where they used to be local .

Good luck with your Rogers  experience  @smcleish   . Smiley Wink

I plan to stick around

Hi Barndoor,

Do you have a smartphone?  Here is what I did because one phone had a dead battery.  Called provider who told me they still have batteries for old motorola flip phone (10+years) but their costs was only $20 dollars less that a new smartphone with warranty.  So we got my mother inlaw a new smart phone and had to train her how to use it.  Then we downloaded "google hangouts and phone dialer".  The app makes phone calls to Canada and USA (except for US islands and Northwest Territories) as long as you are connected to free wireless internet which is free at most malls, coffee shops and restraurants.  This is how she makes long distance calls.  If she is at Casino we call her phone and let it ring 3 times.  This will prevent the voicemail from answering.  Her phone will show missed call from us. She will leave the casino and go to Tim Hortons and connect to wi-fi and start the app and call us back.

This means that I can have four smartphones on pay as you go for only $10 per month each instead of one phone on a $40 per month plan.  This works best when you are on vacation.  You can not incure huge roaming fees because pay as you go ends at the border.  However we can still communicate with the family at a mall or restaurant that has free wi-fi.  We called back to family at every stop on the way to Florida and even sent photos of our trip all for free.

@fireblazer  ,nifty work around .

No  ... so far the fancy phones seem too complicated but I'm afraid I'm going to have to bite the bullet and learn since they seem to be the only option any more.

I see Petro Canada has unlimited texting and 100 canada wide minutes for $15 plus tax and 911 fee ... so I guess it is a no brainer what needs to happen.  Rogers has nothing even close to competing with that, that I can find.   Oh well. Payback I guess , for over 20 years of sticking with  Rogers

Switch from Pay As You go plan to Share Everything plan

I have three Pay As You Go plans and am thinking to switch them over to a Share Everything plan. Will we be able to keep the existing Pay As You Go phone numbers after switching over to a Share Everything plan?

Thanks for your help.

Hello @don88l and welcome to the Rogers Community Forums Robot Happy!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the benefits of our Share Everything plans. You will definitely be able to keep your existing prepaid numbers and have them switched over to a postpaid account.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I am really struggling getting an answer from Rogers to a similar question. I have all services with Rogers and am paying a fortune a minimum both. We never use our home phone anymore. But that number hasn’t been our number for many years. In 2 years when my daughter needs a full fledged phone on my share everything plan. I went her to have that number. But for the next 2 years is like to move that number to a pay as you go talk and text plan for $10/month since we really won’t be using it much. Can I port that home phone number to a pay as you go talk and text plan? Or is the only option to port the number to a non-Rogers cheap plan for now and then port it to my share everything plan? The pay as you go phone support number gives you no option to speak to someone. And everyone on live chat says they don't support pay as you go questions.
