Hi forum members,
I goy on the Wireless Bandwagon with the Nokia FastMile for my remote cottage on Manitoulin island back in September. Where I am there is no 5G coverage, only 4G and I am getting three bars on the web interface and two lights on the gateway. My speeds have been really sporadic. In the beginning I was getting 25-30Mbps down and 1-3Mbps up. Once the I lost connection and when it came back my download speeds wren 60Mbps and upload was 30Mbps. That only lasted for couple of hours. In the past couple of weeks, my download speeds are only 10-18 Mbs and upload 4-8 Mbps.
My question is, is this normal and expected or is there something wrong with the gateway? Also there is no Carrier Aggregation up or down?
Thanks in advance!

Good morning @bytehaus!
I understand that fluctuating speeds could be inconvenient depending upon your activities on the Internet and for that I am sorry.
In this case, it sounds like you do not have a full signal where your modem is placed. In situations where you aren't able to get a full 5G signal, the speeds may fluctuate. Being surrounded by trees and/or a body of water can also impact the signal.
Have you tried moving the modem to a different location in your cabin to see if you can get a better signal?

Hello RogersCorey,
Unfortunately there is no better spot without taking t he gateway outside 🙂
I just wanted to know if this is normal or there is something wrong with the gateway so I can initiate replacement.
Thank you for getting back to me and have a Happy New Year!

I was afraid of that @bytehaus!
Most of the modern cottages I see these days are bigger than my house so I would be remiss if I didn't at least mention that moving the modem is the best option in situations such as this. If there's truly no other spot for it, then you could try bringing it home with you to see if the speed fluctuations persist in a totally different location or not.
Should your speeds continue to wildly fluctuate at a completely different location, that might indicate an issue with the Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway itself in which case we would need to look at replacing the device.

You made me chuckle, my cottage is only 760 square feet 🙂
I will definitely try your suggestion and take it o a different location and see what happens,
Peace out brother!
