How to block a website on the ignite gateway

awhite
I've been here awhile

Hey!

I'm trying to completely block a specific website from use with devices on our network.

The "rogers home connect" app on does not seem to have this functionality, so I have logged directly on to the modem admin page (10.0.0.1) and enabled parental control>managed sites. It doesn't appear to work anymore.

Are the settings on the gateway config page being overridden by the "home connect" app?

thanks!

Good day @awhite,

Thank you for your inquiry. Here are the steps to turn on Parental Controls with Ignite HomeConnect:

  1. Open Ignite HomeConnnect and sign in using your MyRogers username and password.
  2. Select Wifi.
  3. Select Manage people.
  4. Select your child’s profile. If you haven’t set one up yet, select Add a person and follow the prompts to do so now.
  5. Click on the Settings icon at the top.
  6. Select Parental Controls.
  7. Select Turn on.

Note: When connected to your Ignite WiFi network, the devices associated to your child’s profile will be more inclined to access content deemed appropriate for all ages based on industry standards.

Learn more about Ignite HomeConnect parental controls here.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, but that doesn’t answer my question at all.

Re: How to block a website on the ignite gateway

Hi @awhite, I just tried to block a website from the modem and I was able to do so. What do you mean when you say "It doesn't appear to work anymore". Are you still able to access the website(s) you've blocked? Just need a bit more info please.

On the modem homepage (eg 10.0.0.1)>parental control>managed sites>enabled. Blocked sites>entered URL.

No luck. Site is still accessible across the network.

Thanks in advance!

Re: How to block a website on the ignite gateway

Hello, @awhite.

Thank you for additional details.

Have you enabled the Advanced Security feature in the HomeConnect app?

Manually blocking a website is not supported; however, when enabled, Advanced Security in Ignite HomeConnect continuously monitors your home network to automatically block suspicious activity and inform you of potential security concerns, plus presents options to address them. Advanced Security analyzes activity sent through your Ignite WiFi Gateway modem and can complement traditional antivirus software with intelligent cyber threat protection for all your connected devices.

Cheers,
RogersMoin

I’m not trying to stop a cyber threat or suspicious activity. I want to moderate my family’s exposure to SPECIFIC websites. Just like your employer blocks your access to various sites at work, I would like the same ability at home.
Thanks

Good Lord. They’ve got excellent copy and paste skills here but not so much with the read and understand part

I came here specifically because I got this wifi for my mother who is very old and very forgetful. I don’t want to give her a laptop until I’m sure I can block internet banking. It is way too complicated to do it on her Chromebook so I was really hoping to do it with the wifi

Re: How to block a website on the ignite gateway

Hello, @hi6454

Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums!

As per the response from RogersMoin, it is not possible to block specific URLs on the Ignite Gateway.

It may be possible to block a URL using the operating system on the device you are using.
