How do I block users from accessing certain websites at the router level?

I have the CODA modem and wanted to put some filters to prevent people from accessing certain sites.

I know I can do this type of thing on the Windows desktop via the host file.  Unfortunately, this won't help me as I want to block people on all types of connected devices.  I see that the Firewall settings block p2p apps, but how do I block a website?

To block a website you need to go to Security ----> Keyword Filter and in that same box where you can put a keyword to block, you instead put the website you want to block.

From a user standpoint, it's pretty misleading to call it a "Keyword Filter" in the first place, so I'm hoping in newer firmware revisions they rename it to Keyword/Website Filter.

@Alex4161 that would suffice for users who enter the web site into the address bar.  But, it probably won't work for the IP address itself.  In case anyone decides to try that, you should enter both web site name, and its IP address.

If you were interested in blocking a type of web site, you could sign up for a freebie account with OpenDNS which allows the user to block user selected types of web sites, domains (web sites I believe) and countries.

This only works for IPV4 sites, IPV6 is not filtered unfortunately.  This forces the users to disable IPV6 in the modem if he or she wants to use OpenDNS filtering.  Very unfortunate but IPV6 filtering has been on their to do list for years now with no sign that anything is being done to address it.

The filtering requires the user to enter the OpenDNS Domain Name Server addresses into the modems DNS address entry windows, and also load the OpenDNS IP address updater on a pc or laptop that runs on the network.  That IP address updater connects your account to your IP address so that IPV4 filtering.

This actually works very well and there is a range of web site types that you can filter if desired.

If you were running an Asus router, you could load Merlin's Asus-wrt and then load an add-on titled Skynet.  Skynet allows the user to block IP addresses, IP ranges, domains (web sites) and countries.  That blocking works for both inbound and outbound (default mode, but inbound or outbound is also user selectable.)
