High latency during peak hours

bl86
I've been around
Hey there,
I just moved into a new area. I had Rogers fiber 1 Gbps at my last place and there were zero issues. For my current place, I upgraded to the 1.5 Gbps plan. However, there have been issues with latency, particularly during the evening hours, while I’m playing video games. It is particularly noticeable when playing shooter games like counterstrike and is more or less unplayable.

I had brought it up with Rogers and they had sent a tech out. The cable seems to be in good working order. I did have an older xb6 modem so they replaced it with an xb8. However, the problem remains.

I get the sense that this is a network load issue as it really only becomes problematic during peak hours, i.e. Friday evenings when I suspect most people are using the Internet.

Can anything be done about this?
My preference is to stay with Rogers, but if this is an ongoing issue, I may have to switch ISP‘s as gaming is my main leisure activity

Good morning @bl86,

I absolutely understand just how devastating lag can be to the gaming experience, believe me. I am sorry for the ongoing issues.

If there is congestion in the area, we can troubleshoot and test to see if there is any known congestion in your area. If there is no known congestion, I'll need to probe further to determine if congestion is happening.

Now, I just want to set your expectations that congestion can take a couple months to fix once its been recognized. Fixing such issues can require a lot of work in an area. Since we are currently in the winter months, we are unable to do any digging so if we need to do any digging to fix this issue, it would be delayed until the spring when the ground thaws.

We'd be happy to take a closer look to see what is going on! Please feel free to send a private message to @CommunityHelps so we can assist you further. For more information on how our Private Messaging system works, you can find out more here.
