Xfinity voice question

Kahshe
I've been here awhile

My entire apartment building was recently changed to the Xfinity service. This includes the home phone service being called voice on Xfinity. My understanding is that since I am now on Xfinity if I move to a different area code location, I can take my phone number with me if I’m on Xfinity at the new location. For example, I have a 416 area code landline number right now that runs on Xfinity voice. I am moving to a 905 Area code location and that building will also have Xfinity. I am trying to confirm whether or not I can connect my 416 area code phone number to my new locations Xfinity service. The Xfinity service at my existing building and also at my new building are provided as an overall building service. Does anyone know how I can confirm whether or not this is true? The hardest part of moving is sometimes losing the phone number that all your friends and family have. Alternatively, if this is not possible, I guess I can either forward my existing landline number to my cell number. I’m using the term landline, even though it’s actually Xfinity, which I believe is a VOIP service. That being said if I’m moving permanently, is there anyway that I can keep my phone number for a monthly fee without having it be a bunch of services and literally just forward that phone number to either my new number if I have to get one or my cell number. I’ve also heard that I could make my cell phone number this number that my current landline number is

Hello Kahshe,

I am the expert in this question so let me answer it for you!

The simple answer, yes you can bring your Toronto number with you to the 905 area,   however it will not be easy, Rogers will not do it for you when you move, you would have to get phone service from another voip company, and then port your phone number to them.

Rogers will not do it for you because LNP stands for LOCAL Number portibility. since you move from 416 to 905, they will make you take a 905 number  since your local area is 905.   that does not mean you cant do it, it just means you have to do it  yourself and order the voip service and port in your rogers number. yes you can still call it landline even thought its voip, its been called voip since day one and they still refereed to it as land line or landline replacement.

hope this helps

DONT do any forwarding, just port the number,  forwarding will complicate things,

also you must be aware where will you be living in the 905 area?  you will then have a 416 number so if you use the landline number often be careful, sometimes neighbours may not like it to have to call long distance to call their neighbour,  my friend moved a 416 number to hamilton and has that problem
