it does not matter how many years you used the number, if the number was cancelled, it goes into the aging pool for a short time, then someone can choose it after they get released, once another customer chooses it, it is now their number, nothing you can do to take it back. All you can do is call and ask if the number is available, they will say either no or yes, if yes, they can switch it for you.
