Alternate contact number

Milze
I've been around
My daughter used my contact number as an alternate number. I keep getting 3-4 phone calls a day regarding her overdue bill. I have called in 2 times now first time lady told me it was removed and second time which was today I was told she would have to remove it. I talked to my Rogers rep as I work in wireless and know this to be false. The guy tried to play me as a fool and told me I couldn’t have it removed I also informed him of harassment about calling multiple times a day. I will be escalating this further and will be contacting crtc if this is not resolved with my number being removed from her account.

It doesn't matter what you tell them. They will not remove it. When it goes to collections, the amount of calls will get worse. They seem to think the harassment will make you find the person or pay it for them.

I had a former friend use my number for a lot of things she didn't pay and I'm still getting calls for her about her debts almost a decade later. I was told to change my number, which seems ridiculous.

@Milze have a look at the following page regarding debt collection by agencies in Ontario.

https://www.ontario.ca/page/stop-collection-agency-calls

So, that page is aimed at stopping collection agency calls.  From that page comes the following:

"If you don’t owe any money

Let the collection agency know if you are not the person that they are intending to contact. The collection agency must take reasonable precautions to ensure that you are the right person to contact about the debt. If you are not the right person, they can’t keep contacting you.

If the collection agency continues to call, file a complaint."

Here's the link for the "file a complaint" embedded link:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/stop-collection-agency-calls#section-8

That eventually leads here:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/filing-consumer-complaint

There are some hoops and loops to go thru to file a complaint, but, considering that Rogers is calling multiple times a day, treat Rogers like any other collection agency and file a complaint.  You're not the debtor, don't owe Rogers any money in this regard and I would assume haven't given your daughter permission to submit your name as a person responsible for her debts.  Rogers might claim that its not a collection agency, but, that's just skirting the issue.  Even collection agencies have legal limits that they have to abide by, in terms of contacting individuals.
