Scam call

Just got a call from 514-887-xxxx claiming to be Amazon warning that the card on my account was used for a purchase of more than $700. Totally untrue. Just hang up on these robocalls.

A good resource is www.WhoCallsMe.com

On that site, enter the (spoofed?) telephone-number of the caller, to see what other people have reported about the telephone-number.

I type the phone number into any search engine.  In that way if it's a real number, the real organization usually comes up in the search. Also contained in the search are numerous resources that keep track of scam numbers, etc

It depends on which search-engine (Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo) you use.

Bing may perform the mathematics:  889-222-0001 and answer with "666", instead of doing a search on that (fictitious) number.

Yes, find a good one that provides the results that you want and are familiar with.

It's not always possible to tell if someone is calling you from a genuine number or a spoofed number. I have received calls before where the scammer used a number of a genuine business to try to scam me.   Googling the number might be helpful but also might be a waste of time.  They have been known to use phone numbers of random customers who are unaware their number was spoofed.
