spam calls and telephone fraud

afanas
I've been around

I am writing to express my profound frustration and concern regarding the relentless onslaught of spam calls and telephone fraud that have become a daily nuisance not only for me but for countless Canadians. This issue disrupts our daily lives, affects our mental well-being, and poses significant security risks, particularly to our more vulnerable citizens.

Every day, I,  , along with my family, friends, and colleagues, are inundated with fraudulent calls, robocalls, and spam messages. This problem extends well beyond my immediate circle; it is a widespread issue affecting all Canadian citizens. The distress caused by these incessant intrusions cannot be overstated. We are tired and exasperated by the constant barrage of deceptive calls designed to defraud or manipulate.

I urge the Canadian government to take immediate and decisive action to address this severe issue. It is imperative that:

    1. Legislation be enacted to compel mobile service providers to implement stringent measures against this nuisance. This could include:
        • Limiting or blocking robocalls, especially those facilitated through internet-based platforms.

        • Developing advanced technological solutions to identify and mitigate fraudulent activities.

    1. Stricter regulations be put in place to ensure that telecom companies actively combat these fraudsters. There should be accountability for providers who fail to protect their customers.

    1. Collaboration with international bodies to learn from countries that have effectively managed to curb this problem. Countries like the United States have introduced frameworks like STIR/SHAKEN to authenticate caller ID, significantly reducing spam calls. We need similar, if not more robust, initiatives.

The financial implications for these fraudsters are immense, often at the expense of the most vulnerable in our society who might fall prey to these scams. The government has both the moral and legal obligation to safeguard its citizens from such predatory practices.

I implore you to consider this not just as a personal grievance but as a national crisis requiring urgent legislative and regulatory intervention. We look to you for leadership in this matter, hoping for swift action that will bring relief and security back into our daily lives.

Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue. I am eager to see tangible measures implemented and would appreciate any updates on the progress of this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further details or wish to discuss this further.

Yours sincerely,

Valerian

Stir/shaken is already here, and works with the newest devices already,  I honestly can say im actually happy it seems to be blocking most of the nuisance calls and I probably get one or two a month now? but i can tell their nuisanse as there is no caller verified green badge so i just dont answer those.  you know what that means? it means its actually working for most of us. sorry its not been working properly for you but it will get better soon
