Receiving a supicious phone call, am I scammed?

I've been here awhile

Today I received a phone call that saying because of being a loyal customer, Rogers gonna give me a special offer (30 percent off) and smart device. It raised a red flag to me because Rogers doesn't reach to me unless they want me to upgrade my cellphone. But when I ask the person on the other side of my phone, he sent me a txt message with my last bill payment, and last 4 digits of my account number. So I provided my address, date of birth to him. Now I feel so bad that I trusted him. Can anyone help me verify if it is actually a scam, and what should I do if I am scammed? 

 

BTW, he also provided me a phone number to contact (which he claims is the Rogers Loyalty department, which i don't know if exits), his caller ID and his name as well.

@JacobLN log into your Rogers account and change your password and account PIN. 

 

While you're in there, have a look for any signs of a cell phone that has been ordered in your name.

 

Also, have a look at the account details, address, phone number etc, to see if any of them has been changed.  

 

You can ask the moderators at @CommunityHelps to check your account and also see if there are any changes that have been fraudulently requested.  That includes orders for cell phones or adding cell phone lines and changes in personal details, which would allow a hacker to bypass any confirmation or denial by you personally.  

 

At the present time, I would restrict any conversations with "Rogers agents" to the moderators at @CommunityHelps, at least until you can be assured that your account is secure.  

 

Send the moderators a message requesting assistance and include the details that you have been provided with, including the "Rogers Loyalty department, the caller ID and his name as well." 

 

@CommunityHelps is the group address for the moderators here on the Rogers Forum.  When you're logged into the forum, follow this link to the @CommunityHelps page.  On that page will be a link on the right hand side to Send a Message.  Follow that link to the message composition page.  The address will fill in automatically. Fill in the subject and details, including your account number and when the message is complete, hit Send Message at the bottom.

 

When you're logged into the forum, look for a number overlaying the envelope symbol at the upper right hand corner.  That will indicate that there's an inbound message for you. Follow that envelope symbol as it serves as a link to the message inbox and outbox.  From the response in the inbox you can then message back and forth as required.  There will be an authentication procedure that you will have to complete in order to service any change requests for your account.

 

To send anyone else on the forum a message, including @CommunityHelps, hover your mouse over their user name and a popup will appear with a link to send a Private Message.  Follow that Private Message link to the message composition page and as before the message addressee will fill in automatically.  Fill in the subject and details and hit Send Message when you're ready to send the message.

If the moderators indicate that something/anything looks out of place you should ask them to flag the account for fraudulent activity.  That will be a pain, but its probably a necessary step to prevent any fraudulent charges on the account.

Hey I got the same call today as well. Did we know if it's a scam or not?

My girlfriend received the same calls twice today, one for a free iphone 15 upgrade, no cost( When it sounds to good, it is never good) . 

The second call, she handed to me, was for 30% off mobility plan prices because she is a loyal customer, always pays on time etc. Asked my last bill amount, I was highly suspicious so said "I don't know for sure, but you should have that in front of you."

  He then transferred me, and the next wanted personal info like Postal code, address etc, I simply replied that they are welcome to give us the 30% discount, or attach the offer to our online offers, but I don't give anyone personal information over the phone. 

CLICK & he was gone, So the answer is YES THIS IS A SCAM GOING AROUND

 

Careful out there, it's the ole wild west with personal security these days.

I just got a call offering 30% off because they're losing customers because of high rates and bad connections.. like that's not suspicious at all. And then I spelled my email address for her like 8 times and she still couldn't get it and transferred me to someone else. I hung up on them when they asked for my last bill amount and account number.

I always encourage our users to exercise caution while sharing personal or financial info with unknown callers or senders (text)/email. If you ever feel a deal is too good to pass on, feel free to call us and verify. We would be able to tell you if an offer was made on your account or if an outbound call went out.

 

Similarly we can also verify employment for door-to-door reps as well. Just as long as you have a first and a last name for them.
