Anniversary Giveaway

Hi,

I received a mail from rogers@e.rogers.com regarding an anniversary giveaway of a phone. Is this legit?

I also received an email with the anniversary giveaway and I absentmindedly entered my info. I now believe it's a scam. The form only asked for name, address, phone number and email which is not terrible but it's still a lot of info so I'll probably have to contact Equifax to monitor any credit attempts. I was surprised at how sophisticated it was and I wouldn't be surprised if they're using generative AI to autopopulate the language and layout by feeding it legitimate content. It used all the correct and current Rogers branding, there were terms and conditions in French and English, the legal info seemed right. They even sent a confirmation email after I entered. The only thing that seemed amiss was that on the legal document with contest rules, the prize details for the Pixel 7 and the iPhone were swapped but I chalked that up to a formatting error. I didn't realize that I'd probably been scammed until I received a contest entry for a Disney holiday from Air Canada very soon afterwards and, well, everyone knows Air Canada never gives anything away for free. I suspect they ask different information in each contest form so they can gather more info on you.

Anyway, if anyone from Rogers is monitoring this question, below are the screenshots of email communication. The URL is here: https://www.rogersgiveaway.ca/november2023/

Have you actually been with them for 15 years? Mine said 5, which is how long I’ve been with Rogers. How would they know that?

I think so? I'm not sure if it's exactly 15 years. It's been a long time. They could have gotten that info from a previous security breach.

Good Morning @Chanty21, @EeeCue217 😊

Thank you both for bringing this us to our attention! We appreciate your loyalty and tenure with us! 🙌 One can never be too vigilant with all the scams out there these days. I was able to confirm the legitimacy of our Rogers Anniversary Giveaway.  Select customers would have received a contest link provided in the contest invitation email. One Rogers Mobile customer per month can win a phone of their choice for free (iPhone 14, Google Pixel 7 or Samsung Galaxy S23).

I was able to find some helpful details for you both regarding the contest in hopes of easing your minds:

  • Only customers who received the Rogers Anniversary Giveaway contest invitation email can enter the contest in that month.
  • You can submit your entry to the contest by visiting the contest page found in your contest invitation email. You will need to select the prize of your choice and submit the entry form using the same email address you  received the contest invitation email from.
  • In the event that you use a different email address than the one you received the contest entry from to fill out the contest form, the entry will be invalid.
  • The contest will run for 30 days from the date you received the contest invitation email.
  • The email will contain a winner’s release form and a skill-testing question. You’ll have 3 business days to respond back with the completed release form and correct answer to the skill-testing question to claim your prize. The prize will be mailed to the address provided on the release form.

How to enter the contest:

1. Visit the contest page from the contest invitation email. Note that the URL will change each month of the contest.

2. Select the phone of your choice to win

3. Fill out the Entry Form providing first name, last name, and you must use the same email address to which the contest invitation email was sent, confirming selected prize to win

4. Click Submit

5. You will receive an automated email from the contest page confirming your entry.

6. Potential winner will contacted via email from the contesting site.  Included in the email will be a winner’s release form and a skill-testing question.

7. Potential winner is required to respond back with the completed/signed winner’s release form and correctly answer the skill-testing question within 3 business days to claim their prize

8. Confirmation of prize release will be communicated via email where the prize will be shipped to the address provided on the release form.

Best of Luck!
