Xfinity website won't load

senordd
I plan to stick around

For the past few week, the website to watch TV won't load from any browser on my Windows 11 computer but works fine from other devices. It's stuck on the "Now connecting to your entertainment experience" screen. The only way I can get it to load is if I log out of all Rogers websites, delete all cookies and restart my computer. Then when I go to the page, it'll spin for a bit and go to the login screen. If I refresh the page after it's been loaded, it just gets stuck on the loading screen again.

I see this routinely when using browsers with privacy and ad blocker content blocking extensions active.  To get the site to load, I need to disable those extensions, clear cookies and site data, then restart my browser.

Here's a link to my tips for dealing with unresponsive websites:

As mentioned above by @-G- : You can login using that method which is also discussed in my link.

Recently I find it easier to simply open an Incognito or Private window. Works every time since it bypasses the bad cookie/cache.

Keep in mind that developers of web applications test with the major browsers with their default settings.  If you apply settings to improve privacy, limit tracking, implement stricter security, etc., you may break the web site.

Yes, a private/incognito window may allow a web site (that wants the browser to be in a clean state) to work again, but that mode may also block third-party cookies and do other things to limit tracking, which could cause the site to break in a different way... and if you enable extensions in private windows, that too can break web sites.

Guest Windows can also enable some problematic web sites to work... but, because they always start up in a clean state, they will also cause problems with sites that require persistent storage across sessions.

It is very handy to have one of the major browsers installed (Safari, Edge, Chrome, Firefox) -- with default settings and no extensions, where you can conveniently completely clear cookies, history, site storage and other browsing data -- just for those times when you have a pesky site that only works properly when one of its supported browsers is in a clean, default state.

It’s weird because I’ll try with a completely different browser and it will still have this problem.

And that is one of the recommendations in my link.  I'm not sure why the Xfinity streaming website has these issues, although I'm pretty sure it's something to do with corrupt cookies since deleting cookies relating to that website works to correct the issue, I find it easiest to simply use Incognito/private, for this particular website since that's one step, versus numerous steps to find & clear cookies/restart browser, etc.  (Either way you need to login again)

Much of the time I use the Xfinity streaming app on my iPad to check or initiate recordings since it doesn't have any issues ever, although the website on a computer can have different advantages.

Some of the other tips in my list may be required for different websites as you mentioned.  I rarely have issues with other websites, but if I do, the workaround depends on the specific website and may require one or more of the tips in my list, but switching to a clean browser usually works.  One particular website I go to sometimes works with Chrome and sometimes works with FireFox - probably after they've done some sort of website change and not tested properly.  It's a weird one.

I think it’s a windows issue as it doesn’t happen on my Macbook with the same Chrome plugins enabled

For me, it has issues on my MacBook Air using Chrome and my Mac Mini M2 using Chrome... I do use Adblock Plus on all devices, but I'm not sure if that causes issues with Xfinity Streaming since cookie clearing fixes the problem (for a while).

It’s definitely something about the way it handles the cache and cookies. I never had any issues when it was Ignite, but it’s the same software, so they must have messed something up during the rebranding and domain switch.
