The lack of Classic Animation on Canadian TV

Mr-Stereo
I've been here awhile

Since the demise of Teletoon retro in 2015, there has been no classic animation on Canadian TV. That includes on cable channels or streaming.. even though streaming services like Pluto and Tubi that offer Every Limited source of classic animation in the US, the Canadian counterpart of these services do not have them! We have several cartoon channels, but none of them carry any programs older than 1990. There has just been a classic cartoon channel launched in the US that carries animation from the 1930s to the 1990s. MeTV Toons, advit’s called, has teamed up with Warner Brothers/discovery and not only has access to the great Warner Brothers, Looney Tunes, and Merrie Melodies, theatrical shorts, but also the entire Hanna- Barbera catalogues. Not only That, they will also have the Walter Lance, Jay Ward, Fleisher/famous studios titles and much more. Everything from Bugs Bunny, the Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, the originals, Superman cartoons, Betty Boop, Speed racer. They will also have most of the British Gary Anderson Supermarionation shows like Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet and Fireball XL5. Having access to such a vast library, they will not be showing just the big hits. Other titles include the Peter Potamus show, wacky races, the perils of Penelope pitstop, the Smurfs, Mr. Magoo, and much much more. . They will also be covering the history of animation, how it’s done and the people involved in it over the years. This is a dream come true for us big kids that crave this on TV. I don’t know the reason why there isn’t any classic animation on Canadian TV, but it’s about time that issue is rectified. If you’re going to do this, we have to do it right and bring in the channel as is. As we’ve seen in the past, by making these clone Canadian channels like Cartoon Network and boomerang – they pale in comparison to the actual US channels of the same name because they cannot afford to buy all of the programming that their US namesake channels actually own. I am one Canadian, who believes in Canadian programming, however, it is not necessary for it to be on every channel. We have Cartoon Network and boomerang. Adding MeTV tunes would fill a huge gap that those channels do not cover. Those of us were animation fans deserve to have this. If anyone would like More information on MeTV tunes, just check out their webpage:

I would also love to have MeTV Toons, I wonder how long it will take to be allowed to broadcast here in Canada, or at least getting a Canadian version. And with Corus loosing the Warner Bros's Discovery and lifestyle contents at the end of the year, that would be a great time to Corus to make a deal to rebrand of the there channels to bring MeTV Toons in Canada, or at least aquire/licences some of the shows to air them on Cartoon Network or Boomerang.

It would be very fortunate for cable subscribers in Canada if one of the currently carried local stations such as WNYO, WSBK or WGN ended up carrying some of this programming on their .1 channel
