did not get alert ready emergency message

I plan to stick around

Major storm went through Ontario on May 23. In my area, mobile phone users received emergency message: “life-threatening” storm and urged people to take cover. My Rogers cell did not receive the message. It was turned on and had reception. Who can I address this with? Thanks

I got the alert on Rogers as indicated in my post below:

Not sure why you didn't, but perhaps it's your make/model of cell phone - you can check it using the link below.  Do you get the usual amber alerts and or tests?  Here's the link to the emergency alert system.

Edit - I believe you need to be connected to the LTE network.  Perhaps your cell tower is not LTE or was down due to the storm?  See link below and click on the appropriate links to get more details:

Edit 2: If you're concerned about weather warnings, you may wish to consider a Weather App, like The Weather Network and you can set notifications on it regarding bad weather for your location.

Thanks for that info. I have an iPhone 12 PRO and get the amber alerts no problem. I'm in Peterborough ON. My neighbour, with Telus, did get the alert. We were hit hard here and a good portion of the city is still without hydro. My Rogers cell worked through the entire event, which I pleased with. However, I should have received the emergency alert. I'm the only one, of the people I know in the area, that has Rogers. So, I don't know if other people here got the alert or not.

Have you swept down from the top of your phone's screen when the phone is on to see if the alert came through at some time you weren't paying attention to the phone.  My alert came through at 12:45PM, however, the time in Peterborough may have been different.  PS.  I grew up in Peterborough and still have friends/relatives there.

The Emergency Alerts works on 4G technologies so if your phone was connected to a 3G network or lower, then the alert would not work.   Just so you know Rogers still has 3G and yes even 2G in some places and they are trying their best to decommission them and upgrade them to newer technologies  but some people are still using older equipment and yes even IOT and alarm systems that still require the older technologies so they have no choice sometime

Yes, I did sweep down to see if there was an alert. I did not receive one. I should have though. Amber alerts have no problem getting through in the middle of the night, and I'm fine with them. It really was a life threatening situation here and I'm disappointed that I didn't get the alert. I tried calling support, but the guy had no clue what I was talking about.

Thanks for your response. Had an alert been sent, it would have been received as I was on the 5g network.

Here's an interesting article by the CBC regarding Peterborough (and alerts in general.  Apparently Peterborough was not included in the alerts.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/canada-storm-alert-failed-peterborough-1.6467263

"Peter Kimbell, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada, explained that as the derecho progressed across southern Ontario, forecasters weren't as confident that the winds would reach 130 km/h by the time the storm hit the Peterborough area.

That meant that the alert was not triggered for the Peterborough area, because it didn't meet the threshold. Though it was issued for the neighbouring Lindsay-Northern Kawartha Lakes region, he said."

@lem1 : Not sure why your friends got an alert - perhaps slight differences in location or any of the other items discussed...
