Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen 3) – Can I Disable DHCP and IPv6?

kaurmo
I've been here awhile

Hi everyone,

I recently got the Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen 3) and I’m trying to configure my network setup. I’d like to know if this modem/router allows:

  1. Disabling the built-in DHCP server – I want to use my own DHCP server instead.
  2. Disabling IPv6 – I prefer to run only IPv4 on my network.

I checked the admin settings but couldn’t find clear options for these. If anyone has experience with this model, I’d appreciate your insights.

Thanks in advance!

The Rogers Xfinity Gateways all operate the same way.  If you want to run in such a configuration, your only option is to enable Bridge Mode and use your own router.

If you also subscribe to Ignite TV, you will need to have IPv6 enabled.

Yikes! That’s a bummer. I was hoping to manage DHCP and IPv6 myself, but it looks like I’ll need to invest in a separate router. Thanks for the confirmation! Guess it’s time to start looking for a good one.
