Suddenly in mid-December, the ability to use KakaoTalk with wireless earphones (Apple earbuds, Oladance and Shokz) completely stopped working. All the earphones connect perfectly via Bluetooth to the phone (I can listen to music no problem). I checked all the phone settings (Bluetooth - on, Data - on, Wifi -on, Audio - on, VLTE - on. KakaoTalk firmware is up to date (11.3.1). KaKaoTalk wifi and data are set to "on".
Previously, when receiving a KakaoTalk voice call, the microphone icon would switch automatically to earphones icon but as of mid-December 2024 this suddenly stopped working. I reached out to KakaoTalk and they said that as long as I am running the most recent firmware (I am) then there is nothing on their side.
So, I am down to it being the phone (LG Velvet 5G) or something with Rogers mobile.
If you have any ideas or opinions please weigh in.
Note: As I writing this, I am recharging an old Samsung S6 to see if I have the same problem.
Thanks for listening.

Hello, @hgdfgdf.
We're thrilled you joined our Community. Thank you for your detailed post.
I can understand how frustrating it can be when your earphones suddenly stop working with KakaoTalk voice calls, especially since they connect perfectly via Bluetooth for other functions.
I appreciate you checking the basics like Bluetooth, data, WiFi, app version, etc. Besides KakaoTalk, can you use your earphones for regular calls and other apps like WhatsApp?
The issue is not WiFi or data-related.
Have you completed the testing on your Samsung Galaxy S6 device?
Please keep us posted.
Cheers,
RogersMoin

Follow up:
1. Making normal phone calls using earbuds connected to Bluetooth works fine, no issues;
2. Making a KaKaotalk call with wired headphones works fine, no issues;
3. Making a WhatsApp call with Bluetooth earbuds does not work (the phone defaults to the built in microphone, which is the same issue with KaKaotalk).
4. We abandoned the Samsung S6 idea because it would take too long to update all the firmware;
5. We've once again looked through all the required permissions for KakaoTalk and everything seems to be in order but we have also contacted them directly (again) to see if we've missed something (maybe with the developer platform).
6. Barring all this, we are perplexed since everything was working fine 6-8 weeks ago, and we did not change any settings on the LG phones.

Thank you both for the insight. Makes total sense, and a quick perusal of the LG community on Reddit confirms your suspicions. Well, a new year, and I guess a new phone 🙂
