2FA while traveling

I think the fact that we require our phone numbers nowadays to even log into a service, requires that we not get charged $15 a day while traveling. I just wasted 45 minutes of my life on chat with Rogers because the app closed my chat window And could not reconnect me with who I was chatting with.

Here are a few comments:

 

1. RLH (Roam Like Home) charges are now $14 in US and $16/day International.

2. If all you need is the occasional text for 2FA, then remove RLH before you leave and utilize pay-per use.  The pay-per-use rates are fairly high for each text, however, if you only need the occasional text, then it's a lot less expensive than RLH.

 

3. There are alternatives to texting - for example, many institutions will allow for e-mail or special questions for certain accounts, which cost nothing.  Some institutions only allow for texting though.
