Was I scamed? Got call about why I switched from Rogers and offer to return back

Vitalii301
I've been here awhile

I recently switched from Rogers to other operator, and just several days after it I got a phone call, displayed as ROGERS with phone number 8334479898

The guy was asking why I decided to switch.

I told that I only use 3-5GB month, so don't need a 50GB plan for 65$, and there is no plans at ROGERS with lower data and lower price.

He proposed good plan for 35$ and said that sim card would be send to me by mail, so I need to provide my address.

He knew that I have second line for my wife.

He knew my address on Rogers file (it is different from my current address) it was address that I used when first signed for Rogers.

So I was believing it is Rogers.😞

Then he needed 2 pieces of Canadian IDs

I provided driving license number with expiration date and birthday.

As I declined to provide SIN he said that credit card number would do, so I provided credit card number (no expiration or cvv) only number

Also I provided my real current address, as he said that sim card will be sent there.

At the end he started to mention that service is FIDO, but he started as ROGERS.

This where I started to be asking myself about what I did, and if I am a fool.

Am I in trouble now?

What was it?

Although I cannot guarantee it, it sounds like you got a call from the winback team at Rogers/Fido, so I don't believe you are "in trouble".

The parent company of Fido IS Rogers.  A lot of the call centre agents support both brands.  The call you received is likely from the Winback Team. But.. They really should be MORE forthcoming with you on which  brand they are signing you up with.  They should have mentioned upfront that this is a "Fido" winback offer that they are calling you with. not at the end of the call, that is kind of a low ball move on their part

He also said that I will receive an email with details. I did not yet receive an email.

Already blocked my credit card and requested reissue.

Hope it is just Winback Team as you both say.

Now a days these scammers are very sneaky, and possibly can use leaked data from a data breach to make it seem like they are a legitimate agent from a company calling you, it is very difficult to tell.

The best thing to do is ask as many questions, get an interaction ID, get an agent ID number, they should not make a small blurb at the end that this is a "fido" line, they should be more upfront with you, also if you feel uncomfortable, feel free to call back, you can even call back their main published number and ask to be transferred to their department.

I was contacted by ROGERS representative via private message. I was actually contacted by Win Back team and it was a legit offer from them. And yes the offer is to switch to FIDO.

Thanks for all the replies.

This sounds like the scam I just got. They're going to hack into your Rogers and order you a wrong device so you'll send it back to them. Call actual Rogers and report it, they'll help you.

There is legit offers and there are scam calls. Scammers are becoming very sophisticated and often its very hard to recognize one on the line. Use your best judgement, if it is too good to be true, then it likely is not a offer,  also if someone sends you a verification code and asks you to read it to them, that's also scam.

Nowadays I don't do business over the phone unless I telephone the company myself. That way I know I'm not being scammed. And never dial the number that someone gives you, find the company number yourself. That number is a USA number but scammers can do their 'business' from anywhere on the planet using a USA number. I hope you are ok.
