Not sure if legit

I've been around

I cancelled my home internet plan yesterday and got a new, cheaper plan on a new account with Rogers (their staff in store could not access my account and I had to create a new one).

I received a call from 888-764-3771 today to enquire why I had left Rogers (they did not know I got a new account) offering a cheaper plan and asked for my new Rogers account number to process this. They knew my address. It feels scam-y because nobody else offered the package he offered, but I didn't think much of it because he only asked for my Rogers account number.

Should I be worried about my details on the Rogers account? In the future, how do I verify the legitimacy of a Rogers call coming from their official number?

Usually, when you want a cheaper internet plan, normally you would simply call and change the plan to the new one, however it looks like you probably got a new customer deal which is sometimes not available to existing customers, so may have closed your account and opened a new one.

You may have gotten a call from the Winback team, hence the reason why they called you from the Official Rogers number (888-764-3771).  This team calls you back to offer you a better deal, but since you opened a new account with a new account number, they may not be aware you did that.  If you do not need their offer, there is nothing to worry about, simply refuse it and move along, looks like you already got a new plan you are enjoying, so just continue to enjoy it, and if anyone calls you and you are unsure, contact rogers thru their official contact numbers only.

Call Rogers (or any other institution where this happens to you) or contact them in any of the other official ways.
