Customer discount and free phone Scam?

I've been around
I got a call from (780) 434-5954. Claimed to be from Rogers customer care centre. They asked me if my bill has become more expensive because they have been hearing a lot of complaints about increased prices.
They said that many customers are switching to new providers as a result. I told the guy that my bill has increased without any notice. He said he could give me a discount from $90 to $75 for my same plan. I said “sure”. Then offered to upgrade my phone for free from iPhone 12 to iPhone 16. Said he needed me to open my Roger’s app. I declined. I gave him my name and area code (regrettably).

Is this a scam? Or is Rogers actually executing customer retention strategies?

That doesn't look like a Rogers number they call from. Also, phones are not free. The days of free phones are long gone with Canadian carriers.

It’s a scam, I got the same call today from this number (613) 620-7775. Same offer, same conversation. I also gave my info, even though I was very skeptic. To be sure, change your password and turn on 2FA (2 factor Authentication) for extra security.

Rogers always notifies customers of a price increase or a promotion coming to an end 1 to 3 months prior on your bill
