Hello Sports Fans!

This weekend was a wild one in the NHL!

Saturday kicked off with the Toronto Maple Leafs finally making it past the first round of the NHL Playoffs breaking a nearly 2-decade long drought by eliminating the Tampa Bay Lightning in 6 games. The last time they made it past the first round was in 2004! Fans in Toronto were ecstatic over the weekend, but the players know that a lot of work is left to be done.  - LET’S GO LEAFS!

Another Canadian team, the Edmonton Oilers also made it to the second round of the playoffs by eliminating the LA Kings in 6 games. How awesome would it be if both Canadian teams face off in a battle of Canada for Lord Stanleys cup?

On Sunday, in shocking fashion the top team in the league, the Boston Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs by the Florida Panthers in 7 games. The Bruins had a historic season posting a 65-win record and 135 points both of which broke NHL records, but it seems the Presidents’ Trophy curse is legit, and it has hit the record setting Bruins.

The defending champion Colorado Avalanche, were also eliminated from the playoffs in 7 games, in an upset win for the Seattle Kraken. It’s a great achievement for the Kraken as it’s their first time making it to the playoffs, and it is only their second season in the NHL as a team!

Finally on Monday, the final game of the first round of the playoffs was decided when the New Jersey Devils shut-out the New York Rangers and eliminated them from the playoffs in 7 games. The Devils had to overcomes some adversity early after losing their first two games on their home ice. They did rally back to take both games on the Rangers home ice and eventually eliminating them in a commanding fashion winning 4 – 0 last night.

The second round of the NHL Playoffs begins tonight, and you can watch all the games on Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW.
