The All-Star break was this week, which kicked off with the annual Home Run Derby this past Monday. Toronto’s hometown favourite, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., was the 2023 Home Run Derby winner, joining his Hall of Fame dad as the only father-son duo to win that title. Next was the All-Star game on Tuesday, where the National League beat the American League 3-2, their first All-Star Game win since 2012.
With the All-Star Break coming to an end, today marks the start of the second half of the MLB season. The second half of the MLB season is typically when the playoff races heat up. Teams will be competing for division titles and wild-card spots, which will create some exciting matchups and intense competition.
Also coming up is the MLB trade deadline, which is set for August 1st. Contending teams may make significant moves to bolster their rosters, while non-contending teams might trade away their expiring contracts or veterans for prospects.
The Blue Jays are currently third in their division, trailing behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Today they will begin a 3-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in hopes of narrowing the lead.
