Localisze a phone number in same province

mcalgary
I've been around

Hello,

I have my phone number area code 825 and localised in different City in Alberta. I moved to Calgary, and still use this phone number. AFAIK, the area code of Calgary also includes 825.

However, if someone lives in Calgary call my phone number, especially landline, they will be notified that long distance change may apply and sometime it wont connect, so I loose a lot of phone calls.

Is there anyway I can localize my phone number to Calgary? So people lives in Calgary can connect me normally without receiving notification of long distance charge ?

Thank you,

Have you tried calling that number with the local area code? Your area code is a part of your phone number, so localizing it isn't really possible. If the number is available though and Rogers has access to asign it. You could potentially change your number to it. If the number is available but Rogers doesn't have access to allocate and asign it. You could look up what provider does have that block of numbers, acquire the number by signing up for their service, and then seeing if it is possible to port it to Rogers.

An area code can cover a wide geographic range within the province.  Long distance is not determined by the area code itself, but the npa of the phone number which is the first 3 digits prefix.

Since you moved to Calgary, you should request to change to a local calgary telephone number so people who reside within your geographic area can call you locally and not incur long distance charges. and yes there are people who do not have canada wide calling still and might incur long distance charges when calling so lets give these people a break
