I and my family have been using Agent as an offline mail reader for the past 20 years. A few days ago, none of us pick up email via the mail reader. It has been happening for the past week or two.
Attempting to log onto server the pop.broadband.rogers.com with username email@example.com fails. I get an error message: "Server pop.broadband.rogers.com rejected your user name and password ([SYS/TEMP] Server error - please try again later)"
And then I get "An error has occurred in an online task"
"Error: Operation timed out"
This is happening not only on my computer and my program setup. The same thing has been happening on three other family computers with other email addresses.
I have tried to get the matter resolved by online chat and telephone, but they don't have a clue what I am talking about!! and suggested that I got to Staples or Best Buy for an answer!! Duh!!
A while back Rogers/Yahoo implemented the need for an "app password". If you never updated your e-mail client for this, that could be the problem. This change affected different clients at different times, although it is surprising that it took this long to "find you". Here's a link that should help set you up:
You should still be able to access your e-mail with Webmail. Some e-mail clients are no longer supported officially, although using the changes outlined for the still-supported clients should work for an unsupported client. You may wish to start using a client like Outlook, etc.
I have been using the same ole' simple password for the past twenty years, and then it stopped working a couple weeks ago. So I tried my webmail/MyRogers password, and it didn't work either. It wasn't an easy process for this senile 77 year old guy, but I finally figured out how to 'generate' a new password for my off-line reader, and it worked!!!
This was really important to me, because I have 20 years of family history saved on that reader.
