Intel sell's Home Gateway Platform Division to MaxLinear

Ok, so much for world domination.  Intel has sold its Home Gateway Platform Division to Maxlinear.

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200406005253/en/

From the article "The Home Gateway Platform Division comprises Wi-Fi Access Points, Ethernet and Home Gateway SoC products deployed across operator and retail markets."

That should include the SoC division that produced the now infamous Puma 6 modems such as the CGN3xxxx series modems used by Rogers and other Puma 6 modems that proved to be equally painful around the world.

The newer modems include the Puma 7 Hitron CODA-458x modems used by Rogers and other Canadian ISPs and the XB6 (Arris TG-3482 version only) used for Rogers Ignite TV product.  The Puma 7 modems do not suffer from the latency and packet loss that the Puma 6 modems were known for.

The Puma chipset design includes an Atom and Arm processor, hardware accelerator of unknown type, wifi chipset and a MaxLinear cable tuner.  Maxlinear has bought Intel's Home Gateway Platform Division and now owns the whole mess instead of just being responsible for the front end tuner.

So, the question now is, what will MaxLinear do with the Puma design, abandon it altogether and design something that actually works, or keep pushing a 12 old or older design??
