Turn off Screensaver at Startup

I plan to stick around

Hi all,

I wanted to know how to turn on the TV and the box without turning on to the screensaver.

To give some color. We have a tv that we want to automatically turn on in the morning with a power timer, so both TV and the box is turned on at the same time, and both are powered off at the same time.

However, when the TV and box is turned on, it goes directly to screensaver. We want the TV to run the channel that we last tuned into, the next time that it turns on.

How can this be done? What settings must be on?

Thank you!

Do you have both the box and the TV plugged into the timer?  If the box is always on, it goes into standby/screensaver after a preset period of time (maximum 5 hours).  If you plug both into the timer, perhaps the box will come on to the last channel after the normal reboot cycle?  Obviously, this will take some time.  I have not tried this myself.

Yes, BOTH box and TV are plugged in timer. They turn on and off same time. It turns on to screensaver. So frustrating. When it was the old digital box, didnt have this problem.

I need to know how instead of the screensaver showing up at start up, it directly shows the channel I last opened.

When trying to get the Ignite/Xfinity TV systems to behave like digital legacy tv systems, IR blasting trickery or HDMI-CEC setting is often mentioned in various threads.

So, for this Alarm-type, power-on hack, try turning Off the HDMI-CEC, so that the screensaver doesn't appear when the TV is turned On, and the stb comes out of standby mode.

Note: When trying to turn Off the HDMI-CEC option from Rogers/Device settings, you might not see it there, unless the set-top box has been on for a while (but it will eventually appear, so then you can turn it Off - assuming that it was On by default.

Some people also have TVs that have the option to turn on in either the screensaver mode, or to the "Last Input" that was in use (like the Rogers STB on the last channel you were watching).

Anyway, even if this fails to help, read these related threads for more detailed explanations and thoughts:

No this didnt work. I already have the HDMI-CEC off. I have tried to put everything related to Screensaver off.

The TV and box both will be powered at the same time, based on the timer. Its not working still. Any other ideas?

Anyone from Rogers that can look into this??

Hopefully there is one combination of settings that will eventually be uncovered.

In the meantime, while the community works on the cure for all cancers, here's another related thread with a trick to power down the set-top box in a different way. Perhaps you can also try it with HDMI-CEC set to ON, and also see what happens if you only use the timer to turn your TV on:
